White, Young and Rice.
I thought Young had a 2 year deal. White unlucky.

I thought the same.
You may find we just payed him out for next year (draftees wages aren’t much) so we could gain the lost spot back. If that is the case, he will take the money, and play state level and cash a second cheque.

Rice looked slow and didnt get it enough
Whyte had chances and never looked like he was going to step up.

Rice & White - 4 years on our list and both spuds.

One good thing about recruiting list top up players like Young is that they’re already in their 20’s and you don’t muck around.

My question is - do we have to give every new 18 year old kid 4 seasons to try and prove themselves?

I wonder what the average amount of list years a kid gets before delisting? (I’m talking those like White & Rice that have played less than 20 games over 4 seasons!)

Interesting that Ratten who has been at the club for 12 months seems to be in agreement with Richo in not rating White or Acres highly, but looks to be less of a Newnes supporter than his predecessor.

I always thought Richo was an Acres supporter

I don’t know the rules and tactics at all, but I thought we might have found a way to delist Kent. I don’t know what value he offers based on 2019. They gave home a fair crack selection wise. Enough to get a good look.

Was reportedly signed on a 3 year deal so I don’t think he’s going anywhere in a hurry.

At least Young got to play a few games at the top level.

He can go back to the State League and tell his friends all about it.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

White I’m a little disappointed with. Thought he produced some solid efforts at AFL level.

In Australia the AFL recruits kids straight out of school at age 18.
In the USA the greater population creates a much narrower pyramid for grid iron, basketball, baseball and ice hockey they give the kids more time to develop.
Playing in the major leagues is equivalent you representing your state in AFL.
You need to be at least equivalent to top 100 in the AFL not 720.

College sports get much more public interest - some college grounds compare to the MCG in capacity with regularly larger crowds.
Any kid with sufficient IQ to play sport can beat the pathetic academic entry standards of some USA colleges.
Yes they also have elite universities which don't pay anywhere near as much attention to sport.
These college qualifications are even more than Australia not worth the paper they are printed on. *#
They typically get up to 4 more years to develop before being recruited. freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior.
Rice & White would now be looking to get recruited, not get cut.

That tells you that before making a call on a kid recruited at 18 they deserve up to 4 years to develop.
It also means that recruiting is far less accurate than in the USA.

*# I should know after 4.5 years in Saudi Arabia working with arab "engineers" with US degrees from southern states like Louisiana.
They would struggle to compete against a Victorian VCE maths-science graduate in engineering knowledge and with far less potential.

Clog Carlton's list, you know you want to do it Silvagni.

3 games, 2 goals, a season at an AFL club lived the dream, but sadly could not make it.
Forced out by a surplus of small forwards.

One more to be cut.
Will it be Paddy.
Told we can never risk playing you again.
We will pay out your contract from our 2019 cap.
We can even use a trust fund so you get paid during next season like a player.
You can hang around the club, join in non contact training.
But you will never play again.
You are clogging the list.
Someone else will have to be cut in your place or you will prevent someone else getting the chance.
Time to move on to the rest of your life.

I am disappointed White was never given a proper chance.

He showed enough have played more games especially with the injuries to our half-backs this year.

I'd provide the clever and chopping board too.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

He won Zebras b&f so must have done a few things right. I wonder what the knock on him was.

It just seemed there was always someone in front of him so he never got the opportunity. He looked like a decent player to me.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed. My observation from watching and hearing instructions being given at Sandy, was that he had trouble understanding what he was being asked to do.

Didn’t he win the VFL best and fairest?
