Appreciate that Saynta. I'm well aware of the percentages in terms of domestic violence and acutely aware females can be the perpetrators as any human, in any relationship. They should all be called out and held to account once the matter is proven in court.

My take on the taxi incident, just guess work & reading between the lines. The incident occurred at the end of March. The matter was finally listed at court in July where a cadet for the Age is charged with going through court records looking for names of interest. Or leaked by someone at the court or from a copper.

Knowing Nicky's stance on racism and the work he's done to highlight it. If it was pure racism as you stated I'm sure Nicky or his friends would have brought that to the fore the day after.

No one knows at this point in time what happened that night but the police found enough to charge him with several offences.

My guess, yes just a guess, is that Nicky will plea to a lesser charge and the evidence will not reach the public domain. By evidence I am referring to the camera inside the taxi and any independent witnesses.

If he contests it, we will all get the full picture and can then make up our minds whether to be outraged or simply feel for Nicky on the night & the poor bastard he's alleged to have assaulted. A taxi driver, doing his job, who we know nothing about.

I know no more than you but I'm prepared to wait to be outraged if that's what I end up being.

Disappointing court outcome.
Disappointing he didn't argue that being asked to pre-pay was a mitigating factor.
Disappointing Nicky over-reacted.
And totally amazed that the judge knew absolutely nothing about Winmar and his achievements - how can a judge deliver outcomes consistent with community expectations when they have no idea of their community?

Somewhat tarnishes his image as a person.
But nothing can tarnish him as an all time great of this club.

100% correct.

By the way, i caught a taxi from the airport at 11.30pm a week ago. Paid at journeys end. I did note that some taxis but only a couple had a sign on their windows saying fares must be prepaid after a certain time, which I can't remember.

10 PM maybe.

Bloody cabbies.

Use UBER. A far superior service on every single level.

No thanks. I would never use uber and would rather walk. Just don't agree with the concept.

I advise all my female relatives, and I have a few, never to use uber.

No police checks and no insurance for starters.

Agree, bypass laws and underpay staff.

I have never used and would not use an Uber for that reason.

And for the license owners whose investment has been dramatically devalued.

Like Taxi license owners have never underpaid or exploited staff?

Uber is a horrible company but they have disrupted an industry that absolutely needed to be reigned in.

I don’t get how someone could disagree with the concept. It’s the same concept as a taxi service, just modernised.

Although, I must admit, taxi services have improved greatly since they have had competition.

Nicky is one of the nicest St Kilda players I've had the pleasure to meet and chat with.

The only disappointing thing about this whole saga is Nicky's actions. I've no doubt he's truly remorseful and disappointed in himself.

I'm quite sure being asked to pre-pay is not a mitigating circumstance. A question that can be answered with a yes or no.

In terms of all the good he's done that is a huge help in sentencing, it has no impact on the facts of the incident. He is very lucky the Maggy only entertained a fine. He could of really made an example of Nicky.

Nicky's legacy will live on and he will continue to do great things. This is a wake up call that he still has an opportunity to impact in a positive way if he chooses.

Thank god there's not been a hint of racist undertones in this and simply another example of alcohol fuelled violence...is that a brightside? Probably not.

All professions have dickheads, crooks and charlatans in them. The taxi / uber industry is no different. It doesn't mean every taxi / uber driver can have their vehicle trashed and be treated like dirt and / or assaulted.

Finally, catching a taxi after 10pm from the airport is a lot different to catching one from a pub precinct after 10pm when the person hailing the cab is pissed. I'd ask for pre pay or part there of if I took a chance and stopped.

Never had a bad expierence in an UBER. It's safe, clean, cars are better and don't stink, drivers are presentable, friendly, etc. All your transactions and trips are tracked and recorded on your app, drivers details and rego too and its completely cashless. You know what you're paying even before you book your trip through the app (so no rip offs or dodgy routes) plus you can book future pickup times. I have used it overseas also where your app and details is transferable through your phone. Plus if the driver is s*** (which I have never come across) then he gets bad ratings and is kicked out of the service by UBER.

If drivers want to do it as a job then that's their choice. All the drivers I've met seem happy to do it and make good cash. They choose whenever they want to work too. A few do it as side jobs.

Sorry, but the old cabbie system is outdated and behind the times. It's no wonder UBER took over.

Dirty mongrel cabby provoked and pushed Nicky :x

I’ve never used taxi services again after the introduction of Uber. Taxi drivers are generally rude pricks. Then they charge like wounded bulls.

So between the lines, Cuz has had a few, found and hopped into a cab where the driver (in the front seat, Cuz in the back) has insisted on a pre payment

Cuz has objected - saying a few words then alighting

Upon alighting Cuz has aimed some kicks at the vehicle upon which the cab driver has also hopped out of the vehicle fronting up to Cuz who has whacked the cab driver one for his trouble

Then the police intervened

No winners

You could put that the cab driver should have just driven off given the volatility - and probably not his vehicle because the Licence is held by someone else

Uber for me - every time

Their cars

And interesting to talk to them because some do it for money, others for the company

So a different environment to someone driving someone else’s vehicle for what they are paid by the Licence holder (so a fraction of the fare)

Then responsible for the vehicle being presentable (to the Licence holder)

Leigh Matthews wore a conviction

Hasn’t hurt him

The Taxi industry had a monopoly on the market and got greedy and lazy. I have not much sympathy for them.

I will agree with that, inflated prices on plates like they were abalone licences, running the vehicles for 24 hours, paying peanuts & charging overheads on their drivers. Unfortunately some very good people got caught out by the greedy, self serving. They were ripe for car share mobs to take hold of a lion's share.
