He can’t go off his nut (well not that we’d know anyway?) and command respect!

How does one command respect anyway?

I swear to god, some people are stuck in the sensational seventies when it comes to understanding the actual role of an AFL coach.

Adam Simpson is a quiet achiever, is softly spoken, is a nice guy, is not an authoritarian or egocentric. What he is 1) An astute footy mind 2) a consistent communicator 3) lucky

I could coach that team with some success.
Shannon, Tom, Brad, Jeremy - you guys play down back and beat your opponents
NicNat - try and hit the ball to Shuey or Elliot and kick it Forward.
To JK or Darling if they don’t mark it, Cripps, Ryan, Rioli etc can you please get to their feet and crumb it
Hutchins you stop their best Player
Hickey, try not to f*** up too much when you relieve NicNat
My issue with Harvey is that I don't belive he has the communication skills to be head coach.
Credibility yes but perhaps lacks that extra bit of creativity required to motivate all individuals
Leadership yes but lacks the flair to take us all the way. Communication skills are his weakness imo

I doubt anyone on here could make any comment about who can do what, not unless your either related or already work together.
I listened to all the experts pick Watters and then all the same members pick Richo and said he was the right man. I'm over the 'experts' and the jury boards, get someone who has heart for the club, he's done his 10 year apprenticeship, it's his time.

Ten years is a long time as an assistant and Harves has been involved with different regimes in that time. Whether he has the leadership and communication skills is my worry, but maybe results are ultimately more important than being seen to be a good orator. I'm not confident that the environment under Buckley has been the best precursor but who knows? Buckley does have strengths and he does demand excellence I suppose.

The collateral damage is a risk I'm willing to take. What am I saying? I have nothing to lose and if Harves comes to us we might get a few Free Agents coming to the club simply based on the legend of the great Wall Banger. Actually, it's the argument from some people who say we shouldn't appoint him in case he fails and then we sack him and taint his connection to the club. I suppose the counter argument is, what if he succeeds?

What do we know about Caracella’s communication skills, management skills, leadership skills?

I think he needs to be explored, he can obviously coach strategy but a lot of unknowns around him as the main man?

Maybe perfect, maybe not?

But he would be on my shortlist
As would Ratten, Harvey, McRae, Shaw, Schofield, Corey

Pity Mitchell thinks he’s too green.

Change the coach, that's okay - but we will need to poach the best recruiters. This is a must.

The next coach will not fare any better if we continue recruiting in the way we have (relative to the teams that have assembled, and no doubt will continue to assemble, talented and elite-skilled lists).

I'm on the Caracella bandwagon as well.

At the very least we need to interview him.

Played his footy under Sheedy, Matthews and Malthouse.

He has been Neil Balme's right hand man at both Geelong & Richmond's premierships this decade, anything he has been involved with has been successful.

Someone hit the nail on the head in another post when he stated most of the recent premiership coaches (Longmire, Beverage, Hardwick, Simpson etc) were assistant coaches who transitioned.

Generally speaking, coaches with prior coaching experience don't win a flag at their new club with Blight & Malthouse the only 2 off the top of my head.
Many messiah (Blight, Pagan) types have failed when taking on the bottom of the ladder clubs.

We are essentially starting again with another rebuild (staggering) & in my view a first time coach might be the go with the right support around him.

and that's the bottom line

I'd go Rob Harvey. If he thinks he's good enough and wants the gig, then why not. Harvey will always be a St Kilda legend even if he didn't turn out to be the greatest coach.
