Probably the most iconic player of the Richo years. Looks good, showed early promise, but severely hobbled by his own limitations.

Would find it hard to get a game at another club.

Agreed!!! Unless the coach wants to send a message that it’s ok to lope about, raking your hair and picking up a healthy pay cheque.

He was very good the first 5 games this year but has dropped off a bit since then.

Still averaging 22 touches a game and 6th in our disposals for the year. Still in our best 18 at the moment.

He was solid for the first few games but has slipped back to the 2018 form . He is never going to be a game changer but if he can recapture a bit of early season form he will be in our best 20 but has been poor lately.

Needs to find form but not alone.

For mine it looks like he has been moved all over the ground and I don’t think that suits him.

Whats his trade value? We have to be realistic and look at moving some of our "starting 22" on at the end of the year, to get back into the draft, and he'd be at the top of my list. Think a change would suit both parties. I'm thinking a late 2nd round pick would be a good deal (more likely an early 3rd).or swap of players if we can attract someone.
If the rumours are true about Jack Steven wanting out as well then thats 2 decent picks we'd get back in. Jack S would be a first rounder for sure.

Perhaps someone can tell me what he was supposed to be doing today. I couldn't work it out.

And this is a good thing?
What attributes does Newnes demonstrate, he is not quick, not a great mark, cannot hold a tackle, is one of many on our list to kick floaters, lateral vision poor - as a consequence he plays safe, avoiding the one on one stuff.
He should be dropped, not the future.

I think Newnes is like one of those triathletes that works really hard on their fitness, and all they want to do is get fitter and stronger, but it's a side gig.
I'm saying he sees footy as a way to earn a lot of $$, and also get very fit, but he really doesn't care about the club or his team-mates.
He shows no desire at all.

Many Saints players can't run out 120 mins of football, but Newnes can, he runs to the right places to get the ball. Agree, he seems more of an athlete than a natural footballer, but I don't think he can be dropped until he can be replaced by somebody who can run out a full game.

He has even lost the aggression at his opponents he used to have. Another of Richo's major sucess stories ????

+1
I noticed earlier this year, he really threw himself at the contest, it was weird, but now it's like he's playing netball.

He started the season really well

Last week I saw a stat showing him second in the comp for something like “inside 50 score assists” was very impressive looking as he was surrounded in the top 5 by some elite names

Then if you remember a couple of weeks ago there was a report that he was injured and may miss eagles game

Maybe he shouldn’t have played that game and is still carrying a niggle

I think he's playing sore. Not moving with the same speed and fluency that was apparent on the first 5 rounds

He was out on the ground 30 minutes before the Weagles game doing additional stretches etc - maybe it was part of a fitness test before they did a late change etc. Seemed strange that he was out there by himself doing stretches - so perhaps you are right

That would really piss me off. We need to stop playing injured guys. It costs us so often - Newnes was a liability on Saturday and there are plenty in the 2s that would have been better. Agree that he has been good early on this year but his recent efforts were pathetic. If he isn't fit then simple, don't play him, let him recover and bring him back when he's right.

Every one else can see it except his coaches

And his family and his mates

Rest the bloke if he is playing sore ffs. He is easily replaced at the moment

Seems to be playing sore the last few games like he was last year.

He started the season so well.

I think he is proud of his consecutive games record (around 119) and tends to play though injury.
