Hickey gone?

Looking more likely. 2nd rounder on offer. Not sure what picks West Coast would give.

They have pick 20 and 37.

If Hickey goes, we would need to find another ruck.

Roughead maybe, but plenty of mature age rucks are out there in state leagues. Club is looking at a couple. Similar to how we got Marshall.

Well there is a surprise.

As for the state leagues Nick Meese was team of the year in the VFL but would be too short. Zac Clarke was the WAFL ruckman and Keegan Brooksby the SANFL one.

Darcy Fort from Centrals in SANFL would be worth a look.

No leaks sorry, but there are good mature rucks out there that could slot into AFL footy.

A second from west coast will be a pick in 40's, I don't like this move from the club, seems like another incredible waste of time and converting another high draft acquisition into a much later pick after years of work.

Why didn't they try pierce earlier if this was always the plan? We still don't know if he's any good at AFL level.

No one wants longer?

Without leaking the names we are after could you name me some that I have not mentioned.

Curious as to who they are?

I know what your saying,I just dont rate Hickey as much as I used to,1 good,1 average then a poor game seems his pattern.IMO Pierce looks to be our 1st ruck pick, but also agree his development has been hard to work out.Maybe a young ruck in the draft around that 40 mark, but who would know what Richo &co are thinking

The article suggests Pick 37 and maybe a future second rounder for Hannebery??? Sydney want to free up cap space - we should have the whip hand. Two picks would be even crazier.

If true, I guess that explains why we’re keeping Longer.

Hopefully as an insurance policy for Lewis & Marshall, not the other way around!

This makes no sense to me - I thought his beef was he wanted to play afl not vfl and goldy was keeping him out of the team - why go to melb with Gawn ?? If there ever was a ‘no brainer’ fit I recon this is it Preuss to the saints - not sure why it’s not happening - number 1 ruck would be his to loose - trade longer for pick 124 and use that as one of the Marshall / pierce upgrades

I believe Melbourne are thinking of going dual ruckmen - much like WCE

Ok makes some sense now but that’s no comparison to being the number 1 man - if 3 weeks into the season Melbourne are 0 from 3 - maybe the game plan changes and he’s back at Casey until Gawn gets injured —- he could be ‘ the man’ number 1 at the saints

Another dumb move from a dumb club.

McEvoy would've been captain by now.

It does make sense
Melbourne don't really have a second ruck on their list
Gawn is 26 Pruess is 23
So they could combine well for quite a few years to come

Rather Zac Clarke than Preuss or the 2 or 3 better VFL types who are all lumberers.

Aren't we likely to be keeping Longer? And even if we don't end up re-signing him, Marshall and Pierce are still on the list. I will be absolutely shattered if we let Hickey go for anything other than West Coast's pick #20. We have put a lot of time into developing Hick. Plus what is the point in trading out one ruckman for another?
