My team vs Giants

Post: # 1720334Post parkeysainter »

We seriously need to change things up a bit.

B: Geary, Brown, Webster (if fit)
HB: Coffield, Carlisle, White
C: Gresham, Dunstan, Billings
HF: Acres, Marshall (if fit), Sinclair
F: Long, McCartin, Armitage
R: Hickey, Ross, Stevens
INT: Savage, Steele, Rice (debut), Clark

-Left out Gilbert and Newnes. No Lonie.
-I would like to ses the selectors take a few punts.
-Get Gresham and Billings on the wings and in the midfield.
-Try Armitage in a deep forward role alongside Paddy.
-Play Sinclair and Acres as forwards to get 2-3 goals each.
-Have Coffield and White run off half back and use their foot skills.
-Have Steele, Clark and Savage rotate through the midfield and wings.
-Give Rice a debut.
-Get Clark back in.
-Mav Wellar 1st emergency.

Can Jack Steven get a gig?

AwayInUSA no longer ... have based myself back in Melbourne for a decade of Saintsational Success (with regular trips back to the USA)

Serious question. What has Rice done to deserve a spot - apart from being young? Has he been playing well at Sandy?

Only change to that team would be Weller in and Armitage as emergency.

Oh and put Acres in the pivot where he should be

I could handle Wellar in for Armitage. A fit and firing Wellar would be good for the Saints right now.

Yes, he has been playing well for Sandy.

One word simple answer.........Yes.

Up to 4 players to miss through injury, someone needs to replace 2 of them.

"However, the absence of defender Dylan Roberton (heart) is a blow, while Tim Membrey (right knee), Jimmy Webster (hip) and Rowan Marshall (concussion) need to pass tests to be declared fit to play.

Yes. I think Webster and Marshall will get up this week. Membrey probably next week and Roberton might be indefinite which is a big blow but he needs to get his health right. Footy can take a back seat for him for now.

Rice has been going very good at Sandy from all reports. I hope he debuts. Joyce, one of the Irish lads, has been looking good as a defender also.

Pressure is off. Not expecting a win. Hoping to see some spark and energy from some of the inclusions to team including maybe more debutants. Would love to see some accurate kicking for goal, so all-in-all, don't want to miss out if there's good signs. I'll be there

In the mix according to the saints.

http://www.saints.com.au/news/2018-04-1 ... ix-round-5

"Intrigue surrounds the selection table at St Kilda, as the Saints hope to bite back following three consecutive losses.

After nine changes in the past two weeks, the big question is: does Alan Richardson again shake up his side ahead of the clash with Giants?

The answer may be cleared after Thursday’s main training, with several players needing to prove their fitness before being earmarked for a return.

Important players Tim Membrey and Jimmy Webster are racing the clock as they attempt to overcome knee and hip injuries respectively.

Both trained in Tuesday’s light session but will need a strong showing on Thursday in order to convince selectors.

Membrey has been the Saints’ leading goalkicker in each of the past two seasons and his inclusion would be a huge boost for the senior side.

Young tall Rowan Marshall again showed promise in the loss to the Cats before sitting out the second half with concussion.

His availability will depend on testing with the Saints’ medical team before he takes the field for his fourth senior appearance.

If the talented youngster does miss the Round 5 encounter, another emerging key forward is ready and waiting.

Young spearhead Josh Battle delivered the goal of the day for Sandringham on Sunday, unloading from outside 50m on an acute angle.

The second-year Saint has shown plenty of promise at VFL level, and his goal sense could be a timely addition to Richardson’s side.

Draftee Hunter Clark sat out Sunday’s clash as the carryover emergency and will be ready to go if called upon to face the Giants.

A number of experienced Saints shone in the Zebras’ nail-biting two-point triumph over Geelong.

David Armitage was a standout for the Zebras, amassing 34 disposals (22 contested), nine clearances and seven tackles. The 29-year-old’s ability to find the footy was even more impressive given the torrid conditions around the bay on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon.

Experienced midfielder Mav Weller also won plenty of the ball, collecting 25 disposals and laying five tackles. Weller also nailed an important goal that gave the Zebras an eight-point lead late in the final term.

Nathan Wright’s two-goal performance could see him also feature heavily in discussions as the Saints try to find the right mix up forward.

Tom Hickey picked up 14 touches and won 22 hit-outs on a day where the Saints won the clearance count convincingly (29-44), but Billy Longer put in a dominant shift for the Zebras, winning 53 hit-outs to beat Geelong’s Zac Smith.

A host of other prominent Saints have already been ruled out of this weekend’s clash through injury, including Josh Bruce, Dylan Roberton and Koby Stevens"

Hopefully Membrey comes back in. That would be handy.

Rice is a chance for a debut it seems.

My yougest gave up after taking him to three grand finals for no wins. Never been since. Lost complete interest in the game. Shame really, but I can see many following suit after our disastrous start to 2018.

I want Gresh to have a run with Sandringham.

Weller or Arma to fill his spot AND role..

Yep - taking my 5 year old and 7 year old and sitting in our new upgraded L2 seats ....teaching them that you support the Saints and thats it ....you go to games and you win or lose ...thats it .....you dont stop going when they lose, you dont stop caring, you dont stop supporting ....they need us the most when things are tough ....be proper friends or dont be friends at all ....fair weather friends are not what you need when times are tough .....Will keep on turning up and hopefully be there when we turn it around at some stage this year, whether its this week or round 23 ......its ok to not like how they are going ....but you always stay loyal and you always turn up ....thats what a suporter does ...they god damn support !
