Jumped by Carlton last week and conceded eight in the first quarter tonight. Got back into both matches, but had spent all our tickets.

Can't afford starts like these.

True. Its pretty obvious that the team played as rusty as an old farmer's steel gate in the 1st quarter of both JLT games. I'm not too concerned to be honest and both games were good hitouts. Our best players got alot of minutes in and found plenty of the footy.

These JLT games will mean nothing come first bounce of Rd1 on Saturday 24th March 3.30pm.

No they won't, but our lack of organisation, ineffective game style and lack of skill will. Surely you can tell we're way off it. Two teams have beaten us easily, who were both well behind us two years ago in terms of development. All hail the milky bar kid. 12 th at best, probably a bit worse. And they gave old milky a two year extension. We're stuck with him for the next THREE years. Along with Norf, we're heading to interstate land.

"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

Maybe this will be seen as making excuses... but both games were played on the opponents training track and both games we were kicking against a stiff breeze in the first quarter... knowing how to play such a breeze due to training may give a decent advantage... I recon we would have done better in the first quarter if the game were played in Seaford...

Anyway.. personally am suspending judgement until the real stuff starts in a couple of weeks.

While the breeze last night didn't appear (at least on TV) to be the strength of last week you would have thought that the Saints should have had their first quarter "into the breeze" game ready - nup, same result. Handball happy and much of it wasn't constructive.

Most of the dees goals in that quarter came from turnovers when we dropped easy marks.

Pleasing aspects from praccie games in no particular order:

-Armo and Paddy are fit, injury free, moving well and got plenty of the footy (if they keep going its like having 2 new players to select every week compared to last year)
-Savage is looking like having a big year
-Seb Ross ops normal and another big year
-More improvement in Steele, Billings, Acres and Gresham (our young guns)
-Despite a very minor injury, Jack Steven looks like he did in 2016
-Got plenty of game time and minutes into the top two picks (the recruiters nailed those selections). They really look the goods.
-Goal kicking last night was a major positive
-The majority of our best players are fit and in form getting lots of touches

Yeah, we lost a couple of meaningless praccie game by 3 or 4 goals, but its not the end of the world. We dominated the Carlton game after the initial 4 goal burst and were just as good as Melbourne most the game despite their first quarter burst. We could have won both games, but its not important as praccie matches are there to try new things and players, gain some touch and fitness whilst ignoring the scoreboard. If they were real games then things would have been done differently in the coaches box and on the field. Anyone with half an ounce of a footy brain or has played can tell you that.

Anyway, the Saints WILL be ready for Rd 1. I reckon we will win both of our first games comfortably.

ok fair enough... thought the commentators mentioned the wind a couple of times in that first quarter...

either way, home ground training track makes a difference

Would the JLT games have been seen as meaningless praccie games if we had won them by the margin that Cartlon and Melbourne did? Would they have been an indication of how well we had prepared for the season and how ready we were to go?

We always make a comeback in 3rd quarters because the opposition put the cue in the rack and ease off.

Yes we would. Some of you are very reactionary (and me too).
