Difficult one this. Val Perovic had a great season in 1978, but it was just the one season. Since then we've been a bit light on in that department. I cannot think of anyone better than Sam Fisher, although I think Jake Carlisle will become one of our greatest.

Russell Morris for me.
David Grant was one that could play tall and did play that position at times. Fantastic backman.

Forgot the obvious and didn’t read thread properly. Surely Sam Fisher.

Sam Fisher by a margin.

Go back and watch games from 08 to 11. He was a brilliant defender.

Goose was very good for a few years before he broke his leg.

Sam Fisher but I think Jake will be better.

Gee, Sam Fisher would have to go very close. Not a classical CHB - more a tall flanker until the final years - but he'd be pretty handy.

David Grant from 1989-1992 was just an incredible player.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

More than 50 years, and I never saw him play, but Neil Roberts won the Brownlow at chb if I recall correctly.

I did see him play, but only at the end of his career, which was rather short by today's standards - 11 years and retirement at age 29. His last game was against Hawthorn in Round 18 of 1962. We won by 6 goals. He was captain and a bloke called Baldock kicked 5 goals. He would be captain the following year and the rest, as they say, is history.

David Grant was mainly a half back flanker. -he wasn’t tall enough for key position.
A very good one though.

Did win the rising star playing there. An extraordinary achievement when you think about it. A first year player in a poor team dominates at CHB. F#ck Giansiracoward. Cost us one of our Potentially greatest players ever and probably a flag.

Agree but was near the end by 1968. One of my all-time favourites.

Sammy Fisher easily.

I agree on Sammy Fisher but I think the Robert Elphinstone runs a close second of the ones I have seen.

For the last 50 years, Sam Fisher. Make it 60 years, and it clearly is Neil Roberts.

Not or strongest position- last 50 years I would say Sam Fisher.
Big Jake Carlisle will be in that list when he retires.
