Make of his what you willcwrcyn wrote:Jeff Dunne in one year polled 13 votes in the Brownlow, polling in 13 games. He had two amazing seasons in defence and was then thrown into the midfield. After that his form deteriorated and he retired in his lat 20s
Jeff Dunne was a great player and I used to live watching him he did have two amazing seasons but had a flaw in his game.... he could not kick at all with his opposite foot.
Doug Hawkins was a good friend and was working for me at this time . He told me that his (Bulldogs) players were instructed to coral him deep into the pocket by staying on his kicking side and pushing him back ( pretty shure he was right footed) Jeff then basically went around in a circle and was caught with the ball or. Loud not get an effective kick away
After Doug told me I watched closely by the end of that season it would appear most coaches were doing the same
he was moved into the center
And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf"
Go Sainters !!!!!

In my era of 1994 onward it is hard to believe Dempster isnt the standout check out the stats on Peckett vs Dempster. They both get over on different stats but overall Dempster wins. Bit stiff though when Dempster is hardly a small at 9cm more...but he played mean on smalls and talls thats what I liked.
Peckett kicked more than twice as many goals but played
Many more games for st kilda.
I think they played two totally different games and like them both
Have to defer to the older saints on other players.

Dunne or Burke. Peckett became more effective once he moved to half back. Baker was very good there also, as was Sheldon.

From he point in time when there ceased to be resting forward pocket rovers (think of Leigh Matthews) Steven Baker was our best SMALL back pocket player. The general of our back line, he was te one who barked the orders and carried out any necessary "enforcement duties".
