Neither of them are accountants. Neither of them are finance people.

Ameet Bains was employed a couple of weeks after we lost the replay in 2010 and had just broken membership records.

Well they would make bad accountants because neither can count.
They are technocrats sent from AFL HQ to tidy things up. Part of the boys club.
They are completely unproven in the AFL club business. Completely unproven.

I'm firmly in your camp.

Both are lawyers, and I remember Year 12 that the very cream could go to medicine at uni,
or choose Law.

Neither of these men would be numpties, they would know what hard study is,
and are well able to navigate through legislation, processes and procedures.
Both should be able to carry out their jobs in a highly efficient manner.

But I think Con may be suggesting that the 2 might not bleed RW & B,
but are singing from the AFL Hymn book, and may not be putting our club FIRST.

It's one thing to run a business at a profit- look at Qantas n Alan Joyce-
but is the CEO looking after the clients and workers or just
making money with no heart?

For starters. They are both CEO's of AFL clubs...Bains will be soon so they are not idiots. That much is very clear. I'm sure they care deeply about the Saints but who knows how much.

Finnis was CEO of the AFLPA from 2009 before he landed at the Saints so was he really an AFL exec and choir boy? Not at all in my opinion. I think he has done a great job since 2014. The club is better off field than it has ever been and he is a part of that.

Both are accountants. Simple as that.
That is what went down in the last 5 years.
Bains only role was to fix our TPP position. That's it.
Finnis role is to make sure we arent pissing the money the AFL gives us up the wall or blowing it all on coke and dodgy deals.
That's it.
Its like sending in the administrators to a company facing liquidation.
That is what has happened.

Con you are either living in the 70s still or a small country town where they have meat tray raffles to finance their footy club.

why on earth does the CEO have to even barrack for the club. Sure as hell most coaches or players didn't come in barracking for their club.

The CEO of a big footy club (which we are) has a role that is bigger that just been a supporter and that is what you want and need. Any issues are covered by the CEO reporting to the board (who of course are your big supporters)

FYI tom Harley ( that well known swans player!!!) is the next CEO of Sydney. It's about business acumen and leadership.

Very well said. My thoughts are similar.

This isn't the 60's and AFL clubs are multi million dollar businesses...like it or not. These CEO's aren't running some Div 3 club out in the sticks with a couple of hundred members.

But Finnis and Bains are completely unproven.
Finnis came from the players association. Bains from the Ammos.
I come from a place where facts trump marketing spin.
Besides an active marketing department it remains highly unclear whether the last five years has been successfully adminstrated.

Finnis has been doing a good since 2014. That is my opinion and off field, the Saints are looking very good. He is a good operator and a very skilled individual.

Bains has a done good job in his role also since 2011. Even so much that the Doggies snapped him up as their CEO.

Both are top operators so hardly unproven. They wear suits and ties, are articulate, well educated and know how to walk the walk and talk the talk. That is life in modern day AFL...it ain't the 60's and 70's anymore where a local drunk runs your footy club.

We were fortunate to survive the Nettlefold, Wasteaway, Watters, Pelchen clusterf*ck. Part of the reason was strong leadership from Finnis and prudent list and player payment management from Bains. Without them, we'd be anchored to the bottom and maybe heading to our new home on the Gold Coast. If Ameet was a donkey, or even very average, he wouldn't have been headhunted by the hawks, dogs, and AFL for 900K plus jobs. He could've gone to the hawks on way more than he got at the saints but hung in until he publicly stated he would. Everyone has to start somewhere. Even Einstein started in the patents office as a clerk. His thesis supervisor said he was a dud, incapable of teaching a dog to eat. His little known and more highly rated brother, Frank, was a monster.

"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

If Bains is so useless, why did the Bulldogs approach him for the CEO job? Bains is highly respected in AFL circles. Finnis is doing a fine job. Some people on here just go looking for negatives in everyone and everything. A reflection more on their character, rather than anything else.

Who said he was useless?
We all know how th AFL jobs merry go round works.
Look at Gubby Allan.
A reflection of my character is I am not so gullible as to believe every PR and media release that comes from the AFL. The AFL is a hope factory. They are always telling us how great their product is and how professional they are etc.
Doesn't make it true.
