Devon Smith drawing Saint interest? SEN this arvo

Post: # 1703337Post the dome »

Just heard earlier today(SEN) that our Saints may be interested in putting in a serious play for Devon Smith.
I think Spud was part of the brains trust dissecting this possibility on air. It was mentioned that why would the Saints go for another small fwd. But Spud made the point that Devon as a genuinely good player and would be valuable enough to bring to the club - 'you can never have enough good players at your club' he said.
Gresh & Sincs with Devon in the mix seemed to be sounding good to Spud.

Good luck Sainters during this draft period.

Does Smith also spend time as a mid or is he pretty much in the small forward category?

We have enough of them surely.

He mainly plays high HF and does kick a lot of goes for his position. He does want to play as a mid more though.

Yes he is a smallish forward but he's better than everyone else on our list - even Billings some weeks. He is streaks ahead of Wellar, Lonie, Minchington, etc. and is better than Gresh at this point. Who cares if we recruit a small forward. He would be in our best 22 every week and push out those not better than him that have been playing the last 2-3 years in those small forward positions.

Only problem I see is that he has a possible degenerative knee condition. I'm sure it could be fixed and managed though.

At the same age, both Gresh and Billings seem to be better forwards. Smith is better defensively than both and both sides were not world beaters. Smith is a little better defensively. Im not sure he would push out Gresham or Billings but he would compliment them beautifully. He would end the careers of Mav, Meatball and Lonie.

White Brown Geary
Roberton Carlisle Haynes
Sinclair Ross Savage
Membrey Bruce Billings
Gresham McCartin Smith.

Longer Ross Steven

Gilbert Stevens Newnes Steele

Pick 7, 57 and 61.
8 and 43 to GWS.

Where do we sign?

If Devon Smith can’t play at least 50% of game time as an effective midfielder then he is useless to us.

Good player. Knee is a concern.

I seriously doubt Essendon can get all of Saad, Smith and Stringer.

Unfortunately I think that the Dons have struck a trade deal weighted in their favour with GWS.

This. He can't. Glad the dopers gave up 11 for him. Way over. bloody GWS offload someone who can't get a regular game for them and get a high draft pick in return. The farce the AFL created continues.

"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."
