Clayton Oliver B & F Win

Post: # 1703232Post parkeysainter »

Why is it relevant?

Well....this guy only turned 20 this year and easily won the B & F at Melbourne in his 2nd year. The Demons have a good midfield too, e.g. Viney, N. Jones so its a bloody a top achievement given his age and experience. He was taken at pick 4 in the 2015 draft.

To the point, if we take a couple of high quality 18 y/o mids at pick 7 and 8 then we could very well get the next Clayton Oliver or even two if we're lucky. It might not take long for these new picks to have an immediate impact on the team in their 1st or 2nd year.

Yes, it would be great if we could a Luke Parker or Rory Sloane straight away this trade period to make an impact at the Saints but we could be potentially picking up 2 x 18 y/o's that will really help give the club "sustained success" in the long run. IMO, that is just as important as winning a flag in some respects.

Love your optimism, but at this point I'd sell my grandmother for ONE flag.

True that, the flag is the end goal but playing regular finals series is exciting to think of also. Gives you a chance to pinch one then at least like Richmond.

If someone offered me next year's flag in exchange for 20 years at the bottom after that, I'd be asking, "Where do I sign up for that?"

"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

Trade pick 7 and 8 for pick 2. The odds don't look good for getting 2 quality players. One diamond is worth more than 2 gemstones.

Oliver is the sort of player that could drag the Demons to a GF win in coming years. He is first class just needs to stay off the social media stuff.

Was Oliver ever on our radar? I remember seeing him a few years back and thinking he was just what the Saints needed.

Will be one of his generations elite...the equivalent if Voss, Hird, Buckley, Harvey.

Along with Cripps from Carlton.

Good for the demons unless Oliver is poached by Hollywood.

There's hardly any players out there worth going for in this trade period. We're far better off taking out 7 and 8 picks to the draft.

We had pick 1 a few years back and that hasn't been a diamond. in hindsight would you have swapped 1 for 7 & 8 ?
