It sounds like it's on to the draft. At 7/8 I like:

- Nick Coffield, 190cm, 84kg, utility/midfielder. Runs a sub 2.9sec 20metres. Extreme pace, versatile, nice side step, moves well in traffic

- Aaron Naughton, 194cm, 84cm, key back. Great hands, intercepting marking, rebounding, attacking defender
Nughton? WA boy you wouldnt rather stephenson? I think we need xfactor stephenson could be anything.

Stephenson and Collfield would be a dream result imo. Tall running/FAST good kicking mids.
I really rate young Naughton & he fills a need. Brown is old & Goddard is unproven. Currently we only have Carlisle as a proven & longterm tall defender option.

I would be okay with Stephenson although he doesn't overly excite me. His ball use is below par. Hunter Clarke has been the form midfielder for Tac level since moving from the backline. I like him too however we have plenty of players similar.

Why won't he/she answer it or anyone else?

Or is it just another Saints fan that posts here and pretends they are in the know on this stuff?

Just bloody curious to find out.

Well done to Jaxons, however he has just reported what has been stated by Kelly's manager and the media for months really!!!!!

Having said that, he has got many right and has credits in the bank, well done Jax!!!!!

Let's see if you come good again with the 'Big Saints Surprise' come trade time?????

I'm sure you know what im talking about, given your status, let's see!!!!!

Keep up the good work!!!!!

Yeah. All good but what is their position? Who does he/she know all this?

Assuming he's a genuine ITK (which I believe he is) as if he'd tell us who he is.
It would be nice to know a little...not expecting a name or complete job title of course.

But he/she at the club? A player manager? Journo?

Why the cloak and dagger stuff. Lol

I really rate young Naughton & he fills a need. Brown is old & Goddard is unproven. Currently we only have Carlisle as a proven & longterm tall defender option.

Brown isn't really old, it's just that he's slow, and he used to cover his lack of speed by having good judgement,
but now his judgement isn't good enough to do that.

His stats show he averages, per game-
Kicks: 1.95 Marks: 1.27 Handballs: 5.05

In 2015/2016, for the Filth, he averaged
Kicks: 5 Marks: 4 Handballs: 5

I see this as caused by perhaps (could be wrong) a combination of a different role now,
as well as different team-mates.
I recall the Norf game where Ben Brown was taken off the ground by Scott,
allegedly because NJB had quelled him so well (according to some media)
And Ben Brown is supposed to be a sort of handy forward.

NJB has figured in coaches votes at least once, I think he got 2 votes in total

Back in two horses & you've got more chance of winning. Goddard & Naughton very different players, room for both if they are good enough.

But that still leaves a chance that neither will make it. I agree that we need another backmen, but I think we should be looking in maybe one of the state leagues or trade/free agency for a more certain level of player and use our draft picks on best talent available

I don't think we will go for Stringer as he has a lot of off field issues.

It just seems so at odds with the whole strategy?

That does not leave a lot of quality now amongst either the players who are FA's, or not contracted, or will be let go. Rocky is about the only man left standing and he is good rather than elite.

To prize a player, or players, loose that is elite and who is contracted will cost a lot in both trade (players and or picks) and $$$. Un-contracted means that that you can gain them for less. I don't mean cheap, but for less. But like Old Mother Hubbard, that closet is now quite bare.

So who is there that is good, but cannot a game, or will be squeezed out. With Kelly staying, and Whitfield extending, they may be someone from GWS that they need to let go.

I just fear it will be a half back flanker or a middling player like Dalhaus from the Dogs.

Looks like we will keep our first 2 picks and pick up up a player or two that are not key at their existing clubs.

Next year's FA class is sooooooo much juicier - quit worrying!

If Kelly doesn't come then take 7 & 8 to the draft

You would think Melbourne are now done with their rebuild

One from left field to fill a key back position is SAM COLLINS from Freemantle. Aged 23 height 194 cms weight 97 kgs. Oakleigh Chargers, Box Hill, Freemantle. First season in 2016 was good with solid 14 games down back. Fell out of favour with Lyons because he kept playing Zac Dawson instead of the youth this year and they also got the Footscray Premiership full back, Joel Hamling.

Melbourne guy with great attitude, skills, discipline and family.

Lyon does that with players to teach them a lesson without explaining what lesson he wants them to learn. He burns young players.

Would be great at the Saints and probably could get him for a third round pick.

Another one who would like to play back in Melbourne is Harley Balic. Worth lookng at!

Another one is Matthew Kennedy from GWS. Big bodied first round midfielder. Quick and can kick a goal and would not be on much now or in the future with the likes of Kelly, Whitfield, Shield, Cameron etc hogging the cap.

What I am saying is there are many players out there that would be of benefit to us maybe not super stars like Kelly or Martin but who have played a couple of years are ready made to play well. We benefited by obtaining Steele this year. We can benefit again by getting good players at a lower cost, get a couple of draft players like Dow or Codfield and keep our powder dry for the following year. 2018 is said by the so called experts meant to be a super draft so maybe we develop our own top up with some good available cheaper players and continue with our youth strategy in the draft.

To be fair to MG I don't think he actually posted that Kelly was coming. And I certainly do not think that MG is a troll or in anyway was trolling either in the Kelly intsance or indeed in any instance.

As I posted earlier in the thread his posts on Kelly were like this...
Moorabbin Ghost wrote:
Something has changed in the Kelly race too very recently. I've had 2 people say to me today that he will be a Saint, one saying from 2018-2023 for a touch over $6M.
Mark my words if he leaves he'll be a Saint.
I think on the whole that MG posts some pretty reasonable stuff. Like jaxsons has said. Things change and I think MG has only reported what he has heard in a pretty reasonable way including qualifying as in the post above where it was obviously not his normal sources and where he did not actually say that Kelly was coming.

As I posted earlier in this thread John had made very few posts. So just like I do on TripAdvisor I put little store in posters with few posts. You look at a posters track record over time. And as I have indicated I think MG is a pretty reasonable and reliable poster.
