Geary
Interesting statement from Richo on 360 tonight. Talking about when we were down with 2 minutes to go and Gears was on the bench. They dragged brown because he was the closest player, it was that important that they had gears on the ground. He said we needed our captain on the ground because he was the most likely to turn defence in to attack.
I thought it was really interesting the way he said it, just goes to show how highly regarded Gears is. He has really stood up as captain and is now one of our most important players. Great to see the negative Geary posts are a thing of the past, very happy with our captain.

Re: Geary
Is having a very good season. Has grown beautifully into the role. Another big job for him coming up on Saturday night, marshalling the backline without Jimmy, against those Tiger small forwards. He'll step up.

When Billings took the first of his 2 saving marks deep in our backline,The_Merchant wrote:Interesting statement from Richo on 360 tonight. I saw another Saint body on body with a Docker, running with the Docker,
to let JB have an uncontested mark.
Was that Geary? He really kept the Docker away from JB brilliantly
<edit>
Just saw the replay, it was Robbo.
Amazing that any other time, ump would have paid a holding free against Robbo.
But the Docker was holding Robbo as well.

Re: Geary
Had some wonderful moments tonight, none better than those two terrific back to back pack marks he took in front of the interchange bench.

Appears to be growing into the role. Really puts his body on the line for the team.StPeter wrote:Great game from Geary tonight. Probably close to his best for the club.

Re: Geary
Anybody remember that his disposal used to be a worry?
Can't remember the last time I saw a really bad turnover from him...
If anything he seems to be one of the more reliable kicks now. He's a found the balance later in his career of not trying to launch passes that are perhaps outside of his skill range...
He's no dead eye dick per'se but he's a very reliable kick within his limits.
Really loving the Gears

I think it was the Crows game where he had a bad relapse...but he was no lone ranger in that game.skeptic wrote:Anybody remember that his disposal used to be a worry?

Gears has had an excellent year.skeptic wrote: If anything he seems to be one of the more reliable kicks now. He's a found the balance later in his career of not trying to launch passes that are perhaps outside of his skill range...

And his game last night was one of his best.
That first quarter was probably his best quarter ever as he really helped set the tone for the team for the night to have such a great win. His marks in that quarter were special.
