Really glad he's stringing games together, let alone games in the midfield, might have gained some confidence in his Jamie's again if he can burst like that

Bloody fantastic if he's come up after last week's head knock. They must be pretty confident to paly him, given the overall conservatism of the approach they are taking with him.

No doubt, Sainternist. I saw a fair bit of his junior days and he looked as good as anyone. A very exciting prospect and it was no surprise he went at no. 10 in his draft. The past 3 years have been a nightmare for the poor young man, but if he recaptures his physical health and form, be in no doubt, he is potentially elite. I believe he was a risk worth taking, given what we paid for him. A canny bit of recruiting if it comes off, with a relatively low cost if it doesn't. He is exactly what we need to top off the midfield, or even running out of defence.

Everyone always bangs on about his pace and how desperately we need it. While that is true, Nathan is highly skilled and could still be a top liner, even if he lost a yard. Seeing him burst through the middle against North Ballarat and hit Benny Long on the chest 20 metres out had me a bit "Big Kev"*. Excited! I just hope he keeps stringing games together, slowly but surely rebuilding confidence in his body and then going on to become the player he can be. We already have a couple of first rounders to pluck at the end of the year. Add a free agent. Mix with a comeback kid like Freezer and gently bake throughout a sweltering preseason. Viola! We have the makings of a dynasty.

I'm really excited to see what Freezer can do in the midfield. The small highlights reel of his from the nder 18's reminded me of Jack Steven. I spoke to a guy at the Carlton game, who had seen him play as a junior, and he said Freeman was a jet.
I just hope he gets a chance to show the footy workd what he is capable of.

The article says the 2016 pick we traded was used at pick 33 (it was originally pick 31)
Actually we also swapped 2015 original picks 63 and 68
Pick 63 became pick 58 in the draft
Pick 68 would have become pick 62 but was used to queue jump for a father/son pick.
That is equivalent to using original pick 29 which gets used as pick 31 in the draft to buy Freeman.

Lets hope he proves to be a bargain.

St Kilda football manager Jamie Cox said this season was about continuity for Freeman, rather than rushing that craved AFL debut.

Every healthy VFL game is a baby step — another milestone.

“If by the end of the year the performances really start to shine, I reckon he’ll hit the off-season with a real burst of ­enthusiasm,” Cox said.

“We don’t want to put any limits on whether he can play this year. But similar to when we recruited Jake (Carlisle), we’ll be patient.

“We want Nathan to be a good player when we want to be a really good team, and for him to be a bit of cream for that period.

“Whether that means late this year or early next year, they’re not time frames we’re putting on him.”

Years of rehabilitation have not wrecked his endurance.

In the 2015 pre-season Freeman won a 2km time-trial at Collingwood — beating Steele Sidebottom — and last summer only St Kilda captain Jarryn Geary had him covered over 3km.

But has constant medical treatment diminished that tearaway acceleration?

“We’ll wait to see if he gets back to his top speed,” Cox said.

“But his testing over the past few weeks has been really positive in games. He’s now starting to have some of those bursts he was drafted for.”

I hope they are not using naturopathic "medicines".
Nobody knows what is in that rubbish even the manufacturers.
They could even contain traces of thymosin beta 4 and no-one know.

Example
My mother had severe osteoarthritis but would not use cortisone because it made her face puffy.
She came across an expensive naturopathic medicine that provided her some relief.
She realised she could save a lot of money if she imported it herself, but customs would not allow her without knowing what was in it.
She went to her local member who was minister for customs (Don Chipp) for advice.
He arranged for it to be tested.
The result came back that it only contained one active ingredient - cortisone.

Warning to arthritis suffers
She also took a patented pill known by its Boots trade name of Brufen.
She regularly took it without food or water.
She died way too early of necrotic bowel.
Brufen is now widely available but sold under its generic name of Ibuprofen.
Take with food always. ALWAYS.

Best case scenario he stays healthy, shows extremely good form in the VFL for Sandy and puts the coaches in a position where they simply have to pick him, not to dissimilar to Paddy's inclusion this week.

I agree. Hopefully he'll keep building each week. Starting in the midfield this week is another sign of progress.
From all reports one of his best attributes as a junior was his acceleration. His draft combine 20m sprint results were exceptional. If he still has that explosiveness (and the recent quotes from Lindsey Gilbee suggest that is the case) he would be exactly the type of player we're looking for.
Not wanting to rush him but I would love to see him get a couple of games at AFL level before the end of the season.

I had experienced debilitating shoulder bursitis for about 18 months - I went from being a very active person working a physical job, regularly lifting weights and playing racquet sports to being able to do none of those things for such a a long time until I finally forked out the money to see a specialist sports medicine doctor who immediately diagnosed me with bursitits, gave me a cortisone injection and two weeks after that it was as good as gold. That was probably 2.5 years ago and I've had absolutely no issues with my shoulder since then. Before the injection I could not lift a 2kg object in front of my body and I had to completely stop any weight training that involved my shoulders. I trust the hip is a more complicated issue but if the results yielded from cortisone injections are anything to go by it should not be a long term issue for a professional athlete.
