The making of Captain Geary
We see lots of references made about " leadership" in the media and in society. Leadership is a commodity that is sadly lacking within so many spheres of our modern lives.
In my humble opinion, "Leadership" is a term that covers a whole spectrum of acts and attitudes. Leading by example is the most effective, and admirable type of leadership (IMHO) Jarryn Geary has, to my way of thinking, in these past four days displayed remarkable levels of maturity and leadership during this unfortunate episode between Carlton and ourselves.
Firstly, he was first to get into Murphy after that players conduct toward an injured Jake Carlisle. This preparedness to act without regard for himself, in defence of a teammate makes a hell of a statement about his courage and loyalty.
Secondly, when the dust had settled, when the blood temperatures had returned to normal, JG contacted Murphy to make the peace and move on.
Now I know all the macho men and such like may see that as a sign of weakness...... I for one DON'T! On the contrary, I see it as showing enough strength of character, to say; " look mate, it got heated, we said stuff, you said stuff, let's get together and sort it out, and move on"
Jarryn Geary has ARRIVED as our captain courageous! A warrior! A leader! Our Skipper!
Thanks for the editing suggestion from our "Writer in residence" saintspremiers! I see what you men mate!

Re: The making of Captain Geary
very well said, Jiggster
His instinctive reaction spoke volumes about his character, what he feels inside, what makes him tick.
And the follow-up actions show maturity and strength, so that Finnis and the board had no problem with saying
"The Captain's done all the right things, he's got this"
Geary lives and breathes all the right values of the club,
and I think the media is not happy with the mature response.
They're itching to trot out that phrase "arrghh those damned Saints are a rabble"
but they can't.
All the haters, like the huge bellied fat cats running Carlscum, and other clubs, can't gloat and chug on their cigars.
P.S would have been unreal if Hayden Ballantyne was playing with Freo...which pest will stick it up Murphy this weekend?

Wellard Saint: key words when describing Captain Geary; " maturity" " Strength" both physically and mentally. We are on the cusp of something special under this skipper! ( with the GREATEST respect to his predecessors)

Having briefly met Gearbox last year he seems a great bloke also. Very personable which is vital.

Re: The making of Captain Geary
Agree entirely Jiggy, which makes those who reckon he wasn't in our best 22 look right fools.
SainterK was uncompromising in her support for Gears and spot on with her assessment. By the way, where is SainterK? Always loved her posts and sadly miss her contributions.
And where is Dr Spaceman? Hasn't posted at all this year. Love his sharp, observational humour - which is sadly lacking here at the moment. Ground control to Major Tom - come in Dr Spaceman!
