Still risk involved there though. Someone else posted on here a few days ago that something like 50% of top ten picks don't go on to have even moderately successful careers. It's a bit of a lottery. WW posted yesterday a list of the top 20 draft prospects for this year. Reading their bios, they all read like superstars to be.
But they're young fellas, with lots of emotional, physical and psychological development ahead of them and their bios are based on them, with an exception or two, competing with schoolboys. No-one really knows how they'll turn out once they get into the pressure cooker of the AFL. It's easy with hindsight, but foresight is a lottery.

So........if there's an opportunity to trade for a young player who clearly is going to be a gun, then I'd go for it. Kelly a prime example. And because he's clearly going to play a lot of elite footy, his asking price is higher than a speculative pick on a promising draftee, no matter how highly rated he is. If we end up with pick 1, (Hawks, what a shame), I'd be giving it up no questions asked for Kelly and GWS will probably want another pick or player as well and fair enough.

Managing your resources such that you remain in contention is an exact science.

Those Clubs now struggling, and a couple of others including us during the Lyon period, have followed a path which has delivered the ultimate result.

A dysfunctional List living on borrowed time

18 disposals at 100% DE and a goal. Had a pretty good game. Wasn't his usual line breaking self.

If you choose to take that stat at face value, you're foolish.

Good game but wasted in the role he is playing while we are being smashed at the clearances

His opponents had those numbers in the last quarter

He spent a lot of time in the midfield in the last and was flogged?

Must have been better in the first 3?

Least of our worries today.
Dunstan just not AFL standard.
Seems to be adored by the coach evidenced by the fact he has never played a single VFL game in his life.
Gresham also had a nightmare day.

I don't think Dunstan will survive this week. Long will also go back to Sandy to work on a few things. If Koby Stevens pulls up ok he will be in for Dunstan and Sincs for Long. If Koby is sore then Dunstan probably lives to fight another day.

Acres was Acres.

Slowish, unpredictable to his teammates and awful with the pill in hand. Just awful.

If they are your thoughts on someone who was at least in our top 5 contributors and who at least persisted in the last when the rough of the green was against us, what are your views on the other 17 who were on the field for us today?

You realise Blake's not a Mexican?
He's from Perth.
OK, Joey's from "south o' the border" but how does he get to 300+ games,
are 18 coaches blind?

I have relatives in Qld, and they tell me that most banana-benders hate Mexicans, but not all of them.
When the lads play in Brissie in 2018 (no games this year) will you boycott the game
or go along and wear Lions' gear?

Thread after thread and all you do is troll in all of them. Which club do you really barrack for for as you surely are not a St Kilda fan?

Acres is the same age and same height as McCartin.
Food for thought.

Blake is 6'3 and about 85-90kg

Paddy is 6'4" and around 95-100kg

Blake can run a 3k TT in about 10:30
Not sure if Paddy can run 3k?

What are you on about? 8cres is listed at 190cm and McCartin at 194cm.

I actually think Acres could become a very good third tall. He has fantastic hands & is obviously very mobile.
