If we are looking for a new Roo...He is the closest we got. Great lead up player ..Good defence...Damaging forward. Fantastic game from him tonight. Credit to Carlisle n Roberton . Haven't seen Billings on the replay screen for so long ...Was heartfelt to see. Acres will be something better than our higher draft pics.

Mate, he is no Rooey, though they do share some similar traits.

He's a good, dangerous goal-kicker though. Very strong mark for his size and has excellent judgement. Also, a usually reliable kick.

He has strong hands

Contested marking is such a valuable commodity in the AFL as its a lost art... They do not train it like the old days... It's about leading patterns at training

He can clunk it....

Kicking if confident is beautiful... But is shaky for some reason under pressure

Good link up player...Strong. good on a wing ..I'd let him lose in the middle.

Acres is great. He takes the game on automatically and it really seems to suit the Richo game plan.

We were pretty good tactically today, no? Stuck to the plan and were calm in the clutch.

Membrey's best skill is judging the ball in flight. He always jumps at the right moment and hits the ball at his peak height. He has taken many grabs in the middle of a pack without a particularly good sit, he just times it better than everyone else.

He plays his best when he pushes up the ground to play as that link up man.

Then pushes back into space.

He is a great mark... don't want to see the mids use that as a cop out and just bomb it long.

I hope you waved them goodbye when they left.

Agree.

He has looked better this year when he has pushed up to play the Roo style of wing come link up player. This makes the most of his marking ability. I also thing that as a forward it makes him more dangerous running back rsther than playing mainly as a lead up forward.

Took 5 contested marks last week (the most on the ground) and took a few rippers again tonight.

Great game by Members. Hate to say it but the fwd line looked more mobile without Paddy in it. We just need to convert the opportunities we're creating down there.

When Tim took a mark out on the wing I remarked to my friend that that was what Paddy needed to do if not getting his hands on it on the forward 50. Nothing wrong with chasing a kick when you're having a bad one.

Membrey though has shown great hands and ability to cover ground. As carn_sainter said, he also has the uncanny ability to take pack marks from a standing start.

Second week in a row that The Member has topped our contested marks total.
His 6 inside 50s show how hard he works off the ball.

Paddy does get up the ground - he has actually been quite good between the arcs. He has a good field kick that sets others up well. Look at the game where he got marks (Round 9, 2016, Essendon) - I believe that game he spent a lot of time roaming. [But I could be wrong]

This. Recorded the game a always and watching it back I actually replayed a mark that he took in a pack straight out in front of goal about 20 meters out. He simply ran into the drop zone and jumped up between about 5 players and marked with one clean grab. Minimal body contact, and marked at full extension. He simply judges it better than everyone else and has great hands.

The other thing is his field kicking. Look at his pass to Bruce that hit Bruce on the chest just inside fifty. Skunk wheeled around in the centre, kicked a penetrating pass to inside 50, on the side that favoured Bruce, and at a distance that allowed Bruce to run on to it perfectly. I bet Skunk would love some delivery like he himself provides to his fellow forwards...

It has been said before - and I am seeing it in the current gameplan - in bits - but I believe he is being groomed for a between the arcs specialist - the get out/link up type role that Roo is currently playing

You're right, he has been good at that in the past, including when he took 9 marks or so v Melbourne at the MCG. I haven't noticed him doing it much this year though. He seems to have been stationed inside 50 more, for whatever reason. Things will change again. In any case it's nice to have Membrey doing well when Paddy currently isn't.

Agree with McCartin.

Has shown at AFL level that he can impact including working up the ground.

The delivery v Brisbane was very, very ordinary going to the pockets hence the score line.

Great observation. Agree 100%.
I think that is his best attribute. Often out-marks taller or multiple opponents just because he reads the flight and times his jump better. He is outstanding at this.
Obviously he has to have a strong body to keep his position but his timing and reading of the flight is exquisite.
