Nailing a set shot every once in a while wouldn't hurt.

Last in goal accuracy too I'd assume.

How are "assists" determined?

Maybe as goal assists and not as point assists?
Which might mean we're no.1 in point assists?

In order to qualify for an assist, the person receiving possession must convert it to a goal.

We haven't been converting many goals, so this doesn't exactly surprise.

Hardly surprising given the assist criteria above.

However should we find our goal radar I believe we will roll the cats next weekend

So we have 49 goals but only 22 goal assists?

How does that even work, 25 goals from direct turnovers with no other player involved?

Adelaide have 77 goals from 56 "goal assists"

We've probably missed 20 or more easy goals which doesn't help the assist stat much.

I get assists being a worthwhile stat from an individual player point of view, but as a team stat isn't it pretty pointless? Except for goals from direct turnovers or from ruck contests, just about every goal would be from an assist.

If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you.

Can you have two assists from one goal?

Might have something to do with our poor execution and lack of skill.

We're also not bringing in the ball in as quickly and cleanly like a team such as Adelaide. This forces us to take wide shots etc.

Might also mean that we are relying too much on pressure and turovers in creating goals and looking for our big targets.

This makes us too predictable and easy to defend against.

This could be viewed as a weakness as it makes us too predictable. We need more avenues to goal.

I don't think so, I think that would be considered a 'score involvement' which counts players in a chain leading to a score.

A goal assist is where player 2 gives player 1 a clear advantage where player 1 scores a goal. player 2 is given the goal assist stat

Goals could also result in a contested possession, a turnover, a clearance, a mark etc where there's no clear advantage given by any player. No goal assist stat
In other words the goal kicker wins their own ball

Maybe it indicates that we are not moving the ball as quickly and cleanly as last year. Teams have turned our pressure back on ourselves with hard presses, and we don't have the really skillful, creative players to deal with it and keep moving it cleanly in possession.

But for me it also shows how much we struggle to get it into the 50 with accuracy. We often bomb it on the top of our forwards heads. We lack those good kickers to pinpoint targets. Our goals tend to be a bit of scramble. Could explain all our points too - we are not getting the nice, crisp working towards goal but do it the hard way, working hard, giving rubbery legs and shooting from odd angles.

I suppose to be fair too - if we'd converted some of the misses, that may have bumped up the Assist count a bit.
