Indeed, it took him 5 or 6 seasons. Didn't Michael Tuck play close to 100 reserves games before making his debut?
Not quite. Tuck played about 50 reserve games. Steven didn't take 5 yrs to come good. He was taken as underage in the draft. He would have gone top 10 if he waited a year.

Jack Steven kicked 3 as an 18yo in the famous game vs Geelong.

He starred in the VFL

UNFORTUNATELY his coach was Ross Lyon

He plays (and Armo) in either GF and we win both imo

But Eddy, McQualter 2010, Dempster (as a forward off a knee) were obviously better?!

Tom Scully a good recent example of a high draft pick who took a few years to come good and coppped criticism early.
Look at him now.

Yep. But some on here still paint Lyin as some sort of coaching genius. He's not, of course. as history has shown.

Do you reckon Patton is a good comparison?

Firstly he's had TWO knee recos

Second he's 199cm and 102kg - he's a monster!

Jon Patton 197cm 102kgs

Paddy 194cm 94kgs

3cm difference, 8kgs difference, bit of a gap with weight, but not so much height!!!!!!

Good.comparison, both had many interruptions with injury or health!!!!!

We will be great again once Billy is back playing!!!!!

Patton had two ACLs.
What are Paddy's disruptions?

Paddy has had hamstrings, concussion's and shoulder among other injuries as well as health issues, I know it's not knees, but he still has had no continuity, which younger players need!!!!!

Also, how much longer has the General been in the system?????

If you happy to write Paddy off, that's up to you, good luck with that, your choice, not mine, I'm happy to back the kid in, like all true supporters should!!!!!

BJ was hardly a superstar in his first 5 years, indeed he was our whipping boy before Raph came along.

Goddard took a lot of flak in the early days. I seem to remember the word was he only ever went after the easy ball.

out of all current players the late bloomer by the length of the straight is Eddy Betts

Things get a bit distorted over time

BJ took 5 years? Means he was no good until 2008?

BTW
Wikipedia is not always an accurate source

Patton is listed as 198/101
That is a huge man

McCartin 194/94
That is a big bloke, but not a huge bloke in AFL terms

KPP range from 193-200cm and 92-106kg these days.
McCartin is not a big KPP
