BM did you see the Richmond game last year? Paddy was killing Rance in the first quarter before he broke his collarbone. I look at Paddy in the same light as Jon Patton. Injuries/concussion have hampered development that is inevitably slower for a key forward.

It took Josh Kennedy 3 seasons and 29 games to kick 20 goals.

In his 4th season he started to show some form.

Problem with Paddy is the same as Luke Dunstan... it's not ability (although his hands are mixed bag)

Slow, fumbles, clumsy with the ball, is an inconsistent kick... and surely he should be cleaner with his hands?

He is courageous, get to good spots... but because he is limited athletically, defenders can close in on him... he is not a strong or clean or skilled as I once thought/hoped

And if we use lack of prep as an excuse... he's had 5 months, 4 practice games and should be fresh?...

He actually had a chance to put us right in the game, with a little bit of composure ... but carelessly blazed with two options ... they kicked a goal from the kick in

Maybe just once, how about looking at Paddys performance in a slightly positive light? First game back, two goals, could have had more, overcomes a knock to the head, big ground, tires but who didn't? Main target in a team without Roo, and is, despite being a number one pick, still, as a big forward, still finding his way into the AFL. At this stage is right on track, and at his peak (in another three two to three years) will be a vital cog in our game plan. Time to either embrace him, understand what the AFL entails, or give it away and not get out of bed.

In all honestly he is a good average footballer. At best. Doesn't seem too smart either.

He's like a very big dog. They are puppies for quite a while but eventually grow into their skin. When he does, in probably another 2 years, he could be an absolute superstar.

Thought he played well, if we stop bloody kicking it to him on a half volley then he'd have the chance to keep the ball moving quicker. Was often outnumbered in packs but brought the ball down. So many saying he's unfit yet he still 1-2 meters ahead on a lead but we can't hit s*** with kicks.

For a bloke that's had 3 full pre seasons, and the 4 years prior to that been in elite junior programs... he just doesn't look fit, or move with any explosiveness ... and like Kosi, has a very limited endurance capacity

His athetisism is a real worry. I'm not sure how he could do weights three times a week for years, and have no definition, or not be able to back up in time trials

He can play footy, he has size... but to me he just seems like a smaller version of Hawkins, Cloke, Casbolt, Dixon

You remember that game he played against Melbourne last year?

Took like 10+ marks just leading up the ground & roaming around. This he kicked 2.1 as well.

One of the JLT games he had 18 touches, 10+ marks doing the same thing.

Last year obviously wasn't ideal with the head knocks & collarbone.

Slight hammy this year in the JLT.

Remember that in the TAC cup one player had to stay inside your forward half/50m line and that was often Paddy.

Look at Tom Boyd, big lump of a lad.. poor conditioning early... forced to go 70-30 ruck due to injuries, helped him build a bigger tank.. didn't do much in his first couple of years.

Lockett was only 191cm but had fantastic kicking and crumbing skills and was so intimidating that opposition players were scared to get in his way. He kicked 77 goals in only his second year. I know that many on here will say that we should just have faith and trust that the club knows what it is doing, but as a 45 plus years Saints fan I want to believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Pretty sure kennedy grew a centimetre after he was drafted, and Im pretty sure paddy has too. So we're talking 195 vs 196.. not sure there is that much in it. Kennedy does seem to have longer arms, but paddy is more explosive and has a better leap.

Paddy has kennedy covered so far at this point in his career too.

As for the others. Boyd might make a good ruck forward but as a pure forward paddy's better, or at least will be. Lynch is a great player, Hawkins had a few good years, but the best forwards aren't all that tall..

Paddy's a better pure footballer than most of those guys too.
