Keeps improving. Definitely in our best 22 and may be out of our bottom 6 if he keeps on
this path. Finally can kick!

He adds a nice dimension when going forward.

Its only a praccie match. But he does seem to keep inching forward as an AFL footy player. Has some real speed to get at the Swans defenders and is developing a real opportunistic goal sense. Need to see how he goes in the real stuff as should be our run-down forward initially. His composure with the footy and inability to make quick, accurate decisions is still an issue. He tends to just run with it a bit chicken-headed.

Tough as nails and seems to have gained even more acceleration off a quick step. Not to mention actually finding the goals. Lots, LOTS to like!

We'll need him, especially if Weller doesn't come up in time for round 1

Except for his shot at goal all of his kicks were pretty much perfect tonight. Which is strange considering his only effective kicks last year were shots on goal.

Regardless, I'm stoked for him. I had genuinely pencilled him in for a certain delisting early last year and now I think he has pushed ahead of Lonie, Sinclair and Minch to be at the top of the pecking order for the small forward spot. He provides manic pressure, electric pace and is good for a goal or two per game. If he keeps that up I don't think he'll lose his spot. Long looks like his main competition now.

remember the Geelong game? The 2 goals he kicked?
Both came out of heavy traffic...he seems to love goals under pressure and behaves like Neo in The Matrix,
just has that sixth sense and x-factor.
Love his pitbull manic attitude.
Coaches might do as well

Much prefer Wright in our forward line compared to a Lonie. Lonie may be more agile but you don't need to go around players when you can go straight through them! Also adds a higher level of defensive pressure and better above the head.

Thought Lonies attack on the footy, the man and work rate was excellent.

Wright was typically hard at it. Not a Natural forward when meeting the footy by good when it's there.

Membrey is very good, not just stats related, has a work rate and running patterns and ability to finish. Very important.

Lonie is too short and slight should never get another game - just not good enough.

Once Long serves his suspension and maybe plays a few vfl games then he will take Lonie's spot. And that's what we want. If we can get a better player for one of our current players then we should go for it as, theoretically, that should make us a better side.

Wright does go like a bull at a gate but he also does some okay things but he definitely isn't immune from someone better also taking his spot.

Should never get another game. That is far to harsh. I actually like him as a player and still think he could make it. And we have nop idea if Long is better than Lonie. Hasn't even played a proper game.

I'll take that bet with Lonie

Who btw is nowhere near as slight as Long, who is pencil thin.

I thought we debunked that bullsh*t theory that size = ability.
Lonie is 6cm taller than Boomer and Caleb Daniel, 4 cm taller than Eddie Bett... the list goes on...

If you are good enough, you're big enough a couple of cms is going to mean FA

He's like any 3rd Year player... developing... in 2015 no one gave Nathan Wright a chance ... now he's 'defensive forward' which imo is a strange notion

I reckon he's an important part of the next premiership tilt, will play 150+ and be a dangerous small forward.

And I would expect that Wright's long term future is in defence.

If Wright was a better kick he'd be perfect off half back, or even providing grunt and dash in the midfield. It might still happen if his kicking goes up a notch. Good on him. His career looked doomed early last year. Just goes to show, you should never wright (groan) anyone off too early. Suddenly, he looks to be an important part of the team structure.

Been there, done that, didn't work. He didn't have the composure to make decent decisions. The fwd pressure role suits him a lot as he can basically just be like an over-excited dog chasing anything that moves and if he gets the ball he looks for the goal.

The small forward role at the Saints would be the most competitive difficult player type on our list.
Wright, Long, Minchington, Lonie and Sinclair vying for this position although I think Sinclair has eyes to be a mid fielder and ofcourse Gresham and Billings will spend time in the forward line as well.
My guy feel Long is going to be the ace out of the pack or that's what I hope.
He has a higher ceiling on upside than the rest.
Manic attack on the ball carrier, fast and agile with serious goal sense he could be anything.
I feel sorry for these guys. A quiet day and your down on your work rate and your toast in this side.
Pressure is on big time which is great for the club.
I like them all for different reasons and they all have defeciencies that you want them to fix and improve, can they all survive on the list long term? That's an interesting question.

Am I the only one that saw Long and thought ideal HBF?

I've got him eyeing Shane Savages spot

Me too, Skeptic. I thought Long might end up as our version of Jason Johanissen in the next couple of years. He has all the attributes.

Wright is a maniac.

After a promising start to his career he got a few very ugly high collision injuries (Eddie Betts   )

Always liked him and glad he's come good but he needs to keep it up to stay in.

So only defenders have to make good decisions?

I would think all AFL players would need to make good decisions, regardless of position played

That 'defensive/pressure forward' role is also a load of garbage imo

Don't all players put on pressure?! Or is it only up to a defensive forward??

I like forwards to make defenders actually defend, not allow half backs to dictate by allowing them to be proactive
Not reactive. I've played plenty of footy at HB (and am unaccountable) nothing makes me change my game more than a direct opponent being involved offensively.
Last PreLim
The bulldogs exposed H Shaws lack of accountability, and he lost the plot... whilst every other team ran around chasing him.

You put a Billings on him, who kicks three in a quarter and all ova sudden they change their structure... upper hand!

Never understood the buzz word... I believe the whole team should play two way footy. I believe they should have a balance of offence and defence and there is no room for players who lack in either facet

Knew this kid would make it after geelong game!!
I would want him taking a kick outside 50 more than anyone else. He kicks goals out of nothing is one of the toughest blokes in the afl. People hear nathan wright and scoff but he is top 22 now and will help us get that flag.
