EMERGING forwards Darren Minchington and Nathan Wright have been rewarded for breakthrough 2016 seasons with new two-year deals at St Kilda.
Minchington, 22, had played just 10 games in his previous four seasons with the Saints heading into 2016, but managed 13 this year rotating between the forward line and midfield.
Wright, 22, struggled for opportunities in the first half of this season but after earning a recall in round 12 against Carlton missed just one more game for the year, impressing in a new role as a defensive forward.
St Kilda chief operating officer Ameet Bains said Wright and Minchington had taken encouraging strides in 2016.

Congrats to Nath and Dazza but two years? That ties up our precious list space when I think we should be trying to find more real talent especially those with good disposal and decision making. I'm not a huge fan of either to be honest but they do fit Richo's pressure game plan well.
They mentioned the word breakthrough in the media grab
The real breakthrough is that we are developing our youth and building on players that have been recruited as 18-19 year olds. They've already bought in to the Richo gameplan and his style, already bonded with teammates, already found their role within the team.
Both blokes have real upside as they gain experience and the confidence the club has shown in them will be repaid with interest. Well done to both boys and to the footy club
I like both of these guys. Wright for his fierce tackling and speed. Meatball looks fantastic when he gets it, just not often enough. I think it's great that we're holding on to these guys, hopefully until they reach their peak potential to see if they can form part of our premiership list or not.

Really? No, really?
That's a really pathetic post mate.
Those two were part of the reason we won 12 games this year.
Big fan of both. Great players to have at the club. I have a lot of hope for Meatball being a pretty valuable player over the next couple of years. And Wrighty is as tough as nails.

Congrats to both boys. I will admit that prior to this year I never thought much of Minch, but he won me over this year. I have been a fan of Wright since he started but was always concerned about his disposal- funnily enough being closer to goal actually seems to improved his disposal efficiency.

I agree Saynta
When Wright started to get some games this year the comments from those who supposedly know was "his disposal is shocking"
I remember in one of his first games this year he had a set shot and I'm thinking, well based on the comments this could go anywhere, well blow me down it went straight through for a goal.
The lesson is, someone says something on here and suddenly it's fact and many are perpetuating the myth and it's based on what?
By the way #34 when at 71.9 disposal efficiency this year and kicked 7 goals, not too shabby
Good luck to them both

Me too, we haven't yet seen anywhere near their best, in fact one of either could get 'best on' in a grannie one day
Good to see the two getting a couple more years. I can't work Minch out- got all the skills and a bit of pace but just goes totally missing for part of a game..does he need more work on his tank, or is it between the ears? Wright is a good honest toiler, and you need that kind of player in any team
