Very interesting observations by Chappy. Confirms what many think about BJ.

not much new really anyone who has seen BJ wave his arms round on field would know he isnt a persone who suffers fools or likes losing. That said, Chapman is right in that at times it looks more like a bloke cracking under heat....not cool calm collected (think Hayes)

Ive always like Goddard though he is who he is and is IMO still a Saint deep down and had we won that flag after he put us in front....that mark would've rivaled Jezza'.

I remember the photo in the paper with the sign behind him saying O M with Goddard taking the mark.
In my mind that was OH MY GODdard...lol. Great mark.

Wouldn't have lasted long at Geelong. Lol. Chappy is, and has always been, a wanker. Reckons Scarlett is a top bloke though.

More than once too.

Not a Goddard fan, but I'd say its probably be more concerning if a bloke like that liked you.

REad it yesterday - its always interesting to get that in-house stuff revealed. BJ does seem too much of a perfectionist - maybe he needs to learn to chill a bit. With huge salaries and the media limelight, it must be hard to not have your ego explode as a start footy player.

Putting aside Chapmans off-field crap, I hope we develop a culture of leaders being willing to challenge players on field behaviours like it sounds like Geelong had. That actually takes courage and inner security. From what I've heard Dunstan is in that mould. I think Paddy will naturally be like that too. We need a team-first, selfless focus. No point having superstars if they don't play a game that fits in to the teams tactics as a whole. Chapman talked about being predictable so other players know where they need to be. You stop a couple of Hawks stars and it doesn't matter - their system is what beats you.

Under Richo we definitely look like we are going down the team first road with our pressure being at the top of the AFL this year. He seems to get good buy-in from his first couple of years. Hopefully now the honeymoon period is over for him, players will still have good buy-in and begin to embed it themselves without needing his cajoling.

Thanks for the warning. I won't bother reading Chapman's memoirs. Still have nightmares of the bald-headed prick raining on our 2009 parade.

BJ gave his all for the Saints - played with broken nose and collarbone in 09 Grand Final - and he and Lenny almost willed the saints over the line in 2010. He couldn't have given any more. That mark he took - seconds earlier he was up the other end of the ground. He was trying desperately to get us up. It was inspirational. Don't care what a flog like Chapman thinks of him. I know he is universally loved and respected by his SAINTS teammates especially Roo. That is enough for me.

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

Yes, wore his hear on his sleeve and could not have given any more in 09 and 10.

he should be remembered by Saints fans as the great Saints player, not the Essendon player we see now.

Two different era's

Yep totally agree, plays his heart out - always one of my very favourites Goddard - would rather him than 10 x Chapman

Would never read it, but slamming Goddard in the book says more about bigtime Chapman than BJ

Not surprising... Both selfish individuals

Love the way he slams people then compliments them in the next sentence.

Chappie painted a pretty good picture of himself though
When it's obvious he's just an arrogant c***

Who's the better player?

Personally, I think BJ is superior, although Chapman's CV with the premierships puts BJ in the shade, which is always a major sticking point.

I'm bemused that Chapman would even take the time to mention BJ in his book? How many games did they actually play together?

IMO just because someone has played in a premiership side doesn't make them a better player than someone who hasn't. Is Nick Maxwell better than Nick Riewoldt? Is Nathan Ablett better than Bob Skilton? I do agree though that BJ is superior.
