I find it surprising that Sammy ended up with us rather than back at Carlton. Usually a "big" club like that would suck in all their former players. I guess the wrangling when he left the Blues was serious.

What does St Kilda mean to you?

I’ve met some great people here and formed some fantastic friendships. I was captain of the club which was a huge honour.

I’m glad I played a part at this footy club and was able to wear the jumper. Now I’m focused on bringing the next generation through so the club can achieve the ultimate success again. I don’t take my involvement for granted and love coming into work everyday.

He was quick to bag us and stated he considered himself a 'Carlton person' a good few years post-retirement.

I guess people change.

In the end, jet of a player so ideally he is a jet of an assistant with the youngens.

Oh and Sammy, fix the hair mate...

Talking of past players Lenny and Milney are playing for Penguin in Tassie this weekend if we have any Tassie people here. Its Lenny's one and only game unless we can get him to Ormond for a game. About the same odds as the Saints winning the flag this year. Also Bakes has quit his Bendigo side but Matt Ferguson has taken his place.

Milney playing at Beaumaris tomorrow for anyone interested. Raph is there as well so at least people have someone to criticise.

I watched Raph play a few weeks ago v Uni Blues.
Milney would be very entertaining in the Amos.

BEAUMARIS had former St Kilda goalsneak Stephen Milne pencilled in to play against Collegians on Saturday but was blocked from doing so by the VAFA on Friday evening.

Milne, who has been playing for Strathfieldsaye in the Bendigo Football League since his AFL retirement in 2013, has been training with the Sharks and was hopeful of making a one-off appearance on Saturday.

However, the league informed club president John Murton that Milne’s professional status at Strathfieldsaye (among others) ruled him ineligible for Amateurs footy.

“I got a fairly short letter just before five o’clock on Friday basically saying they regarded him as a professional because he plays at other places and earns money,” Murton said.

“If there was a gap in his schedule he wanted to pay the club back for letting him train here by playing a one-off game and the Collegians game happened to be the opportunity to do it.

“We got notified on Thursday there was an issue, and there was a committee meeting on Friday (where) they challenged him on the reasons he wanted to play for us. “They intimated they’d be happy for him to play with us next year on a full-time basis, but it is disappointing because a lot of people down here want to watch him play.”

matt maguire's future in football in doubt
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/b ... hlsr6.html

sad way if it ends for a tough footballer
-Brisbane defender Matt Maguire is battling the serious after-effects of a concussion that may bring an early end to his 14-year career.

Maguire has consulted a number of specialists since he was concussed about six weeks ago while playing for the Lions' reserves side.

The defender spent time in Melbourne last week undergoing further scans and tests, and seeking additional advice.

While Maguire has been feeling well in his day-to-day life, he has experienced recurring symptoms when trying to train with any intensity.

Would have played close to 200 if he'd realised how good he was!
