2018 to 2025 PREMIERSHIP TEAM

Post: # 1539986Post SMS »

2020 PREMIERSHIP TEAM

Wright. Goddard. Webster
Savage. ----------- Newnes
Billings. Dunstan. McKenzie
Sinclair. Bruce. Membrey
------- McCartin. Lonie

Longer. Steven, Armitage (30yo)

Acres. Murdoch. Ross. Weller

Think about 5 years from now this team 25-30 year olds

So tough snd strong. I believe we need another speedster and CHB.

Obviously we may make a play for an a grader through free agency too.
But we are in great shape. Wright and webster forgotten guns. We will own the inside ball with other clubs most of which will be rebuilding. I love how we are on our own in terms of premiership clock. We will get 2-4 flags from 2018-2025

Essentially, with this team, what you're saying is that there is only going to be 2 available positions to fill within the space of 3 draft/trading periods. That everyone on that team is good enough to be in a premiership winning side.

If that is so, it won't be a premiership team.

We will need to recruit/draft 6-8 quality players over these next 3 years if we are to challenge for a premiership by 2018.

I don't know who in that list will not make it, but I assure you, 3/4 of them will not be in the premiership side.

Well said SB. Not sure about 3/4 but there is a lot of wheat still needed to be sorted from the chaff. The backline needs some class key defenders to replace Fisher and Dempster- not sure about Delaney - think we need a quality full back who can really use the footy well. Hopefully Goddard becomes the CHF general with Acres as a play making sweeper. The mids need a lot work - need an elite first unit who have both inside and outside game so can't be shut down easily, with a very handy second unit able to go through the middle. And the forward line has a lot of uncertainty about who will actually make it. You would think McCartin will make it as a power forward. But depending on how Bruce, Lee, White, Membrey and Pierce go this year, if a huge power forward comes up in the draft with our high picks we may be tempted to grab him. Its actually a really exciting time. A lot of things are in flux but you can see our new spine slowly taking shape.

The other thing that really important is to not get suked into getting top up older/bigger players when we look like hitting finals. Cats have shown how much you can extend your premiership window if you be brave and keep blooding young players. The longer the window is open the better your odds of winning a premiership. Build the foundation and then keep it fresh and reinvigorated by not trading away your draft picks.

If you consider Reiwoldt, Fisher, Dempster and Montagana will all be retired by 2018 , then I reckon we need to bring in at least another 8 players of real quality before we are a genuine finals force in the 2018-25 period. With a bit of luck, that could be achieved in the next 2 drafts and maybe a FA or 2 at the end of 2016 or 2017.

so some players that have not played a game, others that have played one and a few that have not proven a thing are part of a premiership winning team?

sheesh

2018 - 2025 premiership team. Love your optimism. 8 in a row. That should make us all happy and wipe away a lifetime of disappointment.

I don't mind this kind of positivity, it has a way of projecting positive direction to the team. We are building a great nucleus, we have some guys who will become at least very high output players and for the first time in ages have some guys dominating their spots in the AFL. Not sure how many will make it but adding Treloar or Shiel would make a big difference to how good we are again and if we could find a couple of good draft picks on top of that we are in for a very exciting future.

I love this kind of positivity too! But am pragmatic enough to realize that a lot of things need to go right. I'd be interested to know what the posts will be like should we lose badly to Brisbane or Melbourne in coming games.

Lol i didnt mean we will win 8 flags in a row
Just one will do. I just think we are building the right way!
Love how we have drafted have a look!! Position filling not doing a carlton and loading on Midfielders of simular elk. We have inside and outside mids. We have KPPs and genuine medium and small half forwards!!!
Brilliant. We also have many left footers(notsure that matter but hey worked for hawks) and almost every player was a TAC or state captain. And most are country boys who are just that more mature and hard than city boys as a general rule.

Petracca and watts for example.

Everyone was all over petracca but he is a FIGJAM who has no endurance and is soft like Watts. Need hard mature blokes to win flags. Im very excited. Bains and conhave been brilliant. We are not falling for hype or pressure to choose players we know what we need and we grt it.

Exactly we have free agency money to burn. Trelor or sheil hopefully cone over.

How on earth have you come to that conclusion on Petracca when he hasn't played a senior game of football ?

His attitude and the fact he couldnt run 3km trial and the fact we didnt take him because of endurance issues.

I think we could be a 2017 premiership team, but each to their own :)

Maybe those 20 names might not be good enough to win a flag.

But agree with SMS that week by week those 20 are looking at worst like a darn solid side.
Let's see how they develop over the next 3 years.

The upside will be a couple of free agents, our young draft picks over the next three years, a few rookies coming through, some trades, players outside the system like Holmes, and maybe some trades.
