Showed more in half a game in the forward line than Stanley has for the season - bar one game. Struggles on the last line of defence against a mobile forward.

Well he should be forward then. Looks that little bit too slow and comes under pressure on his disposal causing turnovers. Atleast in the forward line he will have the first step and just taking set shots.

Always been a beautifull kick,so if he gets a set shot on goal back him in.Can anyone see him being a permanent fixture up forward going forward?.I cant and in just too slow now and not big enough to be a key back.

Great servant ...yes

Future...wouldn't think so

What a disgraceful thread!

Great coaching by Richo to push Jimmy forward.....
...as already mentioned, nearly stole the game for us... 3 great goals...would have been 4 (to get us within 6 points) if that holding infringement had been paid.

Except when he has a dedicated defender on him who will be taller and faster than him he won't be taking any set shots. We have so many other young options for the forward line that we need to trial

At a different stage in our development he'd be handy for another few years as a forward.

I thought he showed Stanley up, though, in his brief stint.

A less effectual game than Stanley's I have seldom seen. He runs around like a headless chook. He may not be the future, either, and his "breakout" game against Fremantle may have been a false dawn.

Get a grip. Nothing disgraceful about this thread. No one has slagged him off just some personal opinions. Get over it. I see no future for him in the back line as he is a poor decision maker and is slow. If he plays half forward he impacts the game more.

Gwilt nearly helped us sneak a win.

If it wasn't for the fact that the umpire was blind he would have got a free for a blatent hold.
Had he kicked the goal we would have been a kick behind with a few minutes to go with massive momentum.

He made Rhys look very very ordinary in comparison.

Thread starts with "The game has left you behind!" and finishes with "If he plays half forward he impacts the game more." no Idea,

Totally agree Big Carl, he (Gwilt) has always looked better playing forward! As far as Stanley goes lets see what his trade worth is? If Port or another club are prepared to give up a first round then move him on. I just cant see him reaching his potential at any point in his career!

We need quick classy midfielders and natural goal kicking forwards....

In trouble. Cant play back and isnt a forward. Plays next year because delistings are in front of him. Ended up good today but that isnt the issue.

His goal on the sharp angle was unbelievable.

Most of the back line was pretty ordinary today perhaps with the exception of Gilbo on return.

Give it up a...

Shove it up a...

Ahhh shuttup your face a...

Stop looking for negatives. I don't care if Gwilt makes mistakes - so does Roo, so does Steven, Dempster, Fisher....Hell - even Chris Judd makes mistakes! If a player makes an impact on the day and more good than bad then that is a positive contribution in my book. I reckon it's the players who don't work hard, don't contribute, and don't impact the game that we need to cull.

Indeed, stinger.
Was almost the match winner - he should have been paid an obvious free kick when he was blatantly held by the arm in front of goal - which would have resulted in another Gwilt goal and brought us within 6 points with 10 minutes to go.

He consistently averages 16 or 17 possessions a match - he's not the problem.

Our bottom 5 or 6 players average 5 or 6 possessions a game - that's where our problem lies. If our bottom 6 were as good as Gwilt, we would end up with another 50 or 60 team possessions and be sitting in the top 8.

have to agree. Jimmy wasn't having a good game down back, didn't drop his head but really contributed when moved up forward. Really he should be given credit for the effort he put in after his confidence would have been dented.

However would Richo have made that move if Bruce wasn't injured?

P66 has nailed it, yesterday wasn't the issue. the problem that Gwilt is not the answer down back, and despite yesterday is not really a forward prospect.

Has been around since 2005 so has given his all, but is coming to an end.

I remember when he started out that he could be a good tough onballer or a strong medium forward with his footskills especially- a pity he ended up in the backline taking on bigger opponents week after week and looking a bit ordinary in a lot of cases. I hope AR keeps him at FF for the rest of the season.

Gwilt is often found out through mismatches. We need a big body in defense, Gwilt has that at 96 kgs - but the problem is he's not really a tall, so he has trouble against taller opponents and he's not fast enough to keep up with smaller, nimbler forwards.

But our main problem remains our bottom 6 players - they don't average enough possessions per game.
We shouldn't be singling out/naming/scapegoating players - our "nameless" bottom 6 need to raise their average possessions from 5 -6 per game to 16-17 possessions per game, which is what Gwilt is at least getting (he's averaging 17 possessions per game).

Really need to subtract any goals that he handed the dogs from turnovers in the back 50.

He was good up forward, still not sure where he fits going forward, we have too many slow backmen… and gwilt is behind Delaney, Fisher & Dempster IMO.

Beautiful kick for goal though.
