Maybe the ball bounced off Beau's chest and flew 100m to other end of the ground and hit Gilbert in the foot ...... there is a lot of spring in that chest!!
seeing how no one has helped you out
I re-checked the game tape - he only lasted 2:30 into the game
was not involved in any off the ground marking contests
not involved in any tackles
& I reckon his gps would have only clocked 100mt at nothing more than jog pace, I think he was shadowing darling
He probably did the damage during warm up & Savage wasnt subbed till the 9min mark.
I dont believe the club made a mistake with his selection, as he would have stuck his hand up to play,
but I think he should have been shopped last trade period

Sorry totally disagree on trading him. he would have got about a third round pick with his inconsistent couple of years then injury. He was incredible against melbourne and his ability to draw players to him while opening up space for others and make ground at the same time was extraordinary. When fit he is a unique player especially with out Dal, Goddard and Gram who were also used in that line breaking backman's role at different times. Gwilt has been removed from that also as he became a KP instead. He's kind of like a really tall player with unique pace for size and elusiveness.

I remember quite a few years ago, our first Cripps {the gutsy one}, had a bad injury, and he was interviewed on the radio and explained what treatment he was receiving and how he would soon return. Just after the interview, a sports doctor rang in and stated that the treatment he was receiving would cause him to be out for a year or so. Sure enough, he never played for yonks and missed more than a season from memory.

Didn't they state when he was re-injured, that it was NOT structural ??!!

Player Injury Estimated Return

Sam Gilbert Foot 9-10 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, April 29
The Doc says: Gilbert's foot fracture recurrence is
worse than reported initially and he will also struggle to regain match conditioning in the next three months. - 30/4

At round 1 the Doc said Gilbo couldnt possibly be ready to play and fully healed with that kind of injury and I got howled down by you know who because apparently the Doc doesn't know what he's talking about.

Then the club made the ludicrous statement about how Gilbo 'is a fast healer'.

No problem with supporters asking that question but maybe they should take into account that

He played the first 2 rounds with an average of 83% game time and came through both games unscathed

Why didn't he re-injure his foot in either of these rounds??

Surely the fact that he got through the first 2 rounds means his foot was trending fairly well

(
Well he had a metal bolt in there and probably took pain killers as well.
This meant he could get through two games but was just doing more damage the whole time and not allowing it to heal properly.

The weeks dropped from 6 to 0 in 1 week and I find it extremely difficult to believe that a surgeon would not take the conservative approach on this. I reckon the club medical staff thought they knew best. Its plain obvious they made an error.
The comment about him'being 'a good healer' also points to an error of judgement.

Stress fractures of the foot are usually small and often not seen in an x-ray. I suspect the medical staff thought there was no break and he was good to go....And the rest is history.

6-12 weeks is the norm layoff but it would seem Gilbert has a recent history of this injury. He'll be out for at the very least the rest of the season, possibly longer, possibly career ending. If he does come back he'll have to significantly change his training habits. Not ideal for a player whose main weapon is his running power. Not good for Gilbert. Good luck to him.

It certainly seems that way and I hate the feeling that this may have been so. We see this type of error time and time again and its not fair to the player, the team or the Club. Taking risks with general strains is one thing, but it's not on with serious structural issues

Not the same awesome medicos that kept Roberton on the field despite the announcers being able to assess his concussion with in 2 words.
