Interesting to hear on SEN that Mark Evens has come out and highlighted how tackles will be ruled in this coming season. Seems common sense is back in vogue.
If the tackle is made below the shoulders then it is deemed to be a fair tackle. If the player being tackled causes the tackle to slip up over the shoulders then it's PLAY ON.
Wonderfully simple. Stick the tackle below the shoulders and its play on. LOVE IT.
I have fallen in love with the game again.

Re: Tackle interpretations
What about the tackle around the waist then a tackled player shimmies his hips and the tackle slips to the players legs.....then it is interpreted as trip? That should be looked at too.
Gilbo has been caught out a number of times this way, has stuck a good lower tackle on opponents hips, then momentum as the tackled player collapses and tackle ends slipping round players knees and Gilbo has been pinged.
Saw it happen to Lenny last season........... he was ropeable when ump determined it was a trip. As Lenny had well impeded/stopped the player before the tackle slipped below kness. The legs only became involved when both players crashed to the ground. It can be a grey area........... rugby style tacklers seem to have this problem.
