Warning: shallow

Post: # 1352961Post SainterK »

Midfield that is.

If we're going to play the kids, why don't we increase the numbers that can run through the middle?

I just don't get it.

Brions about the only other team sticking with a similar outdated structure to ours.

Drop some one dimensionals and get some mids in.

It's especially magnified against the tiges who have depth in their midfield, forwards who are mids, half backs who are mids, players off the bench who are mids.

Why?

Promote TC, play ledger, move Geary in there, wright as well.

???

Agree
Saunders and Curren had good games at Sandy - get them in there.

If Ledger is still on the list he may be worth a go.

It sounds simple on paper - get more mids rotating through. But its tough yakka there in the clinches, big bodies doing tough dirty work in and under. If any player could do it then Geelong, Swans, Hawthorn wouldn't be streets ahead. Its about seeing who can actually be effective on the ball. Watters is trying them out gradually. I too would like to see him throw some more youngsters in but I'm sure they are considering age, size, body mass etc. He's got to be responsible before throwing them to the wolves.

It's even tougher when there is about 5 of you, compared to other teams having up to even 10-11 running through there.

Carl, we could have 6 AA defenders down there and still get pumped.

We need more focus on the midfield.

That has been obvious for at least 2 years. You cant have only 6 to 8 mids as someone well known experts have suggested on here. You need at least 12 a game and that has been happening at most clubs for last 2-3 years. It will be the death of the second small forward unless they can run through the middle. we even started Rooy in the middle for one of the bounces yeaterday but he aint the answer.

I saw all of Cotchin, deledio, grigg, Edwards, Foley, conca, arnot, king, Martin, Jackson (prob missed some) go through the tiges midfield yesterday.

Why do we continue to ignore it?

Still not understanding how guys like TDL and Milera help our development, our young mids gave no chance given how much is expected of them in the middle.

We can rectify it somewhat p66, and choose not to play specialist forwards and bring in two additional mids, don't tell me guys like joey Steven and Armo can't rest there?

Scott was at the pies, it shouldn't be foreign to him?

Agree with you p66.
2nd small fwd needs to be able to go in the middle. Even if for just 5 mins a quarter.
If the ball is going the other way - You can longer afford some bloke in the fwd line standing there keeping warm and pulling his socks up.
Numbers at the contest is the modern game.
