New Assistant Coaches required !

Post: # 1336872Post WinnersOnly »

If WATTERS wants to continue coaching the SAINTS after this year her needs to have a complete clean out of Assistant Coaches at season end!

They are all rejects from non sucessful clubs - WHY are we attracted to these blokes!

Dean LAIDLEY - most miserable non inspiring individual on the AFL scene!
Adam KINGSLEY - was soft when he played and it is showing in his coaching.
Danny Sexton (Assistant Coach) - Has he even played the game?
Ruck Coach - McEvoy has not improved his tap work!

Replacements -
Midfield Coach - Cameron LING
Forward Coach - Barry HALL
Defensive Coach - Max HUGHTON
Ruck Coach - Matt CLARKE currently with the Crows.

I am not sold on Scott Watters coaching ability but he is good in other aspects so perhaps if he gets some quality up to date Assistant Coaches around him things may improve?

So Mr PELCHEN it is time to make some changes at seasons end and not just with our list ! Perhaps you should also look very closley at our fitness staff as we seem to have gone significantly backwards in that field also ! The Colorado pre season camp has shown NO improvement in the teams fitness base what so ever !

SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

so let me get this straight you want us to cut
Dean Laidley - senior coach at North Melbourne for 148 games from 2003-09. Played 52 games with West Coast (1987-92) and 99 with the Kangaroos (1993-97), including the 1996 premiership.

Adam KINGSLEY - 170 games for the Power. He won the best and fairest in 1998 and was a member of the 2004 premiership team

Danny Sexton- ran the Calder Cannons under-16 and under-18 development programs and was head coach at the Northern Knights.

and replace it with

Ling - a great tagger in an awesome geelong team with Zero coaching experiance
Barry Hall - a great forward who is remembered more for his brain snaps and decking people with ZERO coaching experiance
and Maxy - who up until recently was already a specialist coach for us but is no longer working for us

all this while we are trying to get experiance into the team you want to fill the coaching ranks with inexperiance ?!?!? ive seen some stupid things in my time but honestly this is right up there

Get Misson back for starters, our injury list has never been so low under him. Also surely he'd want to get out of Melbourne. We might see Schneider play again if he comes back

people claim Mission to be the messaih , no doubt he is good at what he does but look at the injurys we have at the moment ...

Sam Gilbert - Knee - not much anyone could do to prevent that ..

Daniel Markworth - ACL- not much anyone could do to prevent that ..

Adam Schneider - Hamstring - he is 29 years old with a nuggety body hamstrings are a concern for most players in the category

Lenny Hayes - Calf - he is over 30 and has been through hell and back in the last two years health wise with the ACL and the heart condition ... time was always going to catch up

Nathan Wright - Jaw - impact injury now amount of conditioning could prevent that

Tom Simpkin - Quad - yeah ok maybe preventable

i dont think Misson would be doing much for our injury list as it stands right now honestly

I'd be more than happy to have Schneider and lenny running around atm...

As soon as Misson went out the door Schneider went to sh*t again, just like before he arrived. He seemed to have soft tissues managed well, really well

Misson has been gone for two years therefore Schnieds is also two years older ... worth noting Roo is now in the best condition ever after being hampered during Missions time ... Misson was good and is still very good but he is not as good as some on here would make out we did have our injury concerns during his time as well

I hope they add more to their group to be honest

Lenny Hayes to mentor all new players thru Academy

Nathan Bassett from Norwood

As for bagging Mc Evoy think overall he has been pretty good this year, you must have missed Carlton game.

right so the proven track of lets stick with our own back yard forget the long look country wide for best available ... cause that proven track has provided us soo much success throughout our history

have you ever considered that Tudor only tends to jump to a team that are in contention and never to a team that is in a rebuild phase ? it sure makes his CV look impressive going from premier to premier but does it show he is going to be any good at helping build a club ?? im sure once we have done the hard work of the rebuild Leigh Tudor will consider comming back to us

Laidley is a developer he is also proven as the guy who can squeeze as much as possible out of as little as possible ...

i have gone to great lenghts to point out the skills that Tony Michale brings to the club and from the way we have been getting first year and second year players up to the AFL standard this year is a pretty good show that he is at least doing his job...

Mcphee at Sandi is getting the best results out of the St Kilda listed players as i have ever seen from our VFL allignment , i dont see any VFL games but i do read the reports and the St Kilda listed players are always in the best players something in the past that was perhaps more lacking ...

Jaymie Graham ill admit is an odd one but given his life experiance growing up in a pretty harsh background im sure he can impart some valuble mentoring and life skill to the players....

so yeah it must suck for you guys to have so many WA guys at the club must be heart breaking that Victorian people are not there...

the best available happen to be from WA and they all seem to be doing their job pretty damn well so suck it up it was the all Victorian led group that put us in this phase with their team management and revolving door of youth being drafted and delisted

I think you'll find that Max Hudghton still has some coaching involvement at the club. He certainly did at the Carlton game where he was on the ground coaching the backline players at 3/4 time !!

Some small town narrow mindedness on show there...

I couldn't give a toss where Mcgale comes from as long as he delivers.

I do KNOW Dean hasn't delivered anywhere (how's Ports midfield going this year????)

I laugh at how Leigh Tudors impressive assistant record is only cause he "jumps ship" yet Deans miserable coaching record is explained away.

The "best" aren't all from WA otherwise Lyin wouldn't be coaching Dockers..... Dean would be...

End story - you have zilch to suggest Laidley can coach - I have facts that he's failed miseray at 2 AFL clubs and IMO is on his 3rd and last chance

Next you'll be telling us Mark Harvey (certified cabbage) was just quietly building at Freo and was the right man to lead the charge....

Mission needs to go back to the Australian Cricket Team............... in his days in charge of fitness, the cricket team didn't have fast bowlers breaking down every second week.

How do you know any of this. made up rubbish. And the replacements are interesting to say the least. 2 have never coached in their life and max probably doesnt want a FT role. Can you also tell us how Clarke goes as a coach?

Some small town narrow mindedness on show there... - what looking out side the good ol victorian boys club is small town narrow mindedness ?? i would think your narrow mindedness is showing thinking where an assistant coach was born has impact on their ability to do their job

I couldn't give a toss where Mcgale (Who?) comes from as long as he delivers. - both Micale and Mcphee at the moment seem to be doing a decent job do we not have kids making the grade at AFL level at the moment ? to me thats delivering

I do KNOW Dean hasn't delivered anywhere (how's Ports midfield going this year????) - again maybe i need to space it out for you ... Dean....was....on....a......stupid.....FIFO.....arangement.....with......Port.... its pretty hard to be successful with a group when you ultimatly dont want to be there and they dont really care if you only fly in for game day... thats Ports stupidity for allowing it

I laugh at how Leigh Tudors impressive assistant record is only cause he "jumps ship" yet Deans miserable coaching record is explained away. - name me a club Leigh Tudor has been at from the rebuild phase ... he is a good assistant coach and im not doubting that but he is very selective where he chooses to go .. you wont see leigh going to the Dee's any time soon... if we were to get leigh at this stage it would be a waste as we need a list builder not a finisher

The "best" aren't all from WA otherwise Lyin wouldn't be coaching Dockers..... Dean would be... - never said the best are all from WA in our case the best available were the guys from WA (funny enough Dean has lived more years in Victoria then WA yet he is lumped in as part of the WA invasion)- and i never said Dean Laidly was the best coach to ever coach i did say he is a decent assitant coach for us
End story - you have zilch to suggest Laidley can coach - I have facts that he's failed miseray at 2 AFL clubs and IMO is on his 3rd and last chance - you mistake the word facts with the word opinion ... if being an assistant next to Malthouse ad the pies is failing miserably if then getting a head coaching role at north and holding that for 7 seasons is failing miserably if getting an assistants role at port and then being valued enough to allow a pathetic FIFO arrangemnt is failing miserably if then getting a senior assitant coach role at St Kilda is failing miserably then your right ... but lets deal in actual Facts 4 clubs have employed Dean as a coach in some capacity so either he is brilliant in fooling these clubs or he might actualy know a thing or two about coaching
Next you'll be telling us Mark Harvey (certified cabbage) was just quietly building at Freo and was the right man to lead the charge.... - as an assistant coch Mark Harvey has value as a head coach he was out of his depth .. what this has to do with Dean Laidly and his ability is unknown but he ill answer anything you ask me

Schnieds is one of the most footy-savvy players going around. I hope we retain him in a coaching role when he retires.

Milney could do PR for us on his retirement.

Could have no better role model for younger players than Lenny..... good development coach.

look i dont buy into the whole Foe or ignore list stuff i come here to talk about our team ... i dont agree with lots of points of veiw and i have some heated arguments on here over many things but end of the day we are all saints fans and have the same common goal we often disagree about how best to reach that common goal but thats what makes forums fun .. it would be preety dull if we all agreed

Well we are 8 games into the season with only 2 wins on the board. The question is why. And from reading the comments on this site it seems to come down to one (or more) of the following:

(A) We are in a rebuilding phase with an abundance of young inexperienced players
(B) The Senior Coach is no good
(C) The mid field coach is no good
(D) None of the assistant coaches are any good
(E) The fitness guys are no good.

I think most people would accept that (A) is happening.

Now the existence of (A) in itself does not mean that (B), (C), (D) or (E) can’t also be valid.

However the existence of (A) makes it impossible, IMO, to assesses accurately whether or not there is any validation in (B), (C), (D) or (E) or if there is, how much validation.

We’re all just guessing and that’s hardly the basis on which to start demanding termination slips down Seaford way.

Way too much logic....

max is only part time due to work committments, not sure he's keen on going further than what he is doing now. likewise hamill.

we'll probably see some change to the assistants, as they like to build up experience, but not alot
