2012 style V 2011
The season is only 3 rounds old, but our game style has certainly changed this year. This year we are leading the number of kicks per game at 239 with only 139 handballs per game. Last year for the whole season we averaged 207 kicks per game and 162 handballs. This will change over the course of the season and with better opposition, but it is an indication of the different brand of footy we are producing this year.

I think competition-wide the game is changing. Speed of ball movement to beat retreating defenders rather tha trying to thread way through. Kick will win every time.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Re: 2012 style V 2011
One thing I'm not so sure I'm loving is that we've returned to the "kick it backwards and sideways across half back" thing that we got out of the habit of doing last year. That has been very evident so far this season and has been bringing plenty of boos from the crowd already. Can open up the fat side of the ground though.
Being at the ground and having a good vantage point, low on level 3, on the wing, you can see all the field really easily beneath you and see who is loose, where, really easily, etc and I've noticed a few times in the past two matches that we've had one or two free, in space, in the middle and have either not even looked there to see them, or have chosen to ignore them and instead kicked it to a contest down the line , or kicked it sideways, or backwards.
Usually having someone free in 15m of space in the middle is considered an extremely desirable thing, as you can attack quickly and directly down the guts (or at worst go sideways or backwards from there), but either we're under instructions to not go down the guts under any circumstances, or we're simply not looking there to see if anyone's free.
Either way, I'm not sure I'm liking it, because having someone free in the middle is like gold, usually and you don't knock back gold.
Going down the boundary line is fine, if you don't have a better alternative, but if you do, I believe you've go to take it.

We hold up play on the back line until we can get the ball to a link player who can deliver well to the forwards

Why would he hate it?

Re: 2012 style V 2011
Our biggest tests come in rounds 6-9, especially. Hawthorn, Carlton, Sydney, West Coast (Perth). We'll have a far better idea of where we're at at the end of that run. We'll need to improve our ball use, kicking for goal and so on a lot in the meantime, to still be in the top 6 by then.

Yeah we didn't play GC last year or the Dogs or the Power. At least they aren't dour struggles against s*** teams that fail to increase our percentage.
