09 was a great season in terms of everything up until 3/4 time of the Grand Final then my memory goes a bit fuzzy

Good calls. I was in Adelaide too. There were two pockets of Saints supporters and thousands of Adelaide ferals. Hung around singing until the ground was almost empty.

Great topic. Beating North and getting into my first ever GF in 97 was awesome. But as good as that was, nothing can beat 2009. Every week was joyful and that game v Geelong was something else. When Gardi took that mark, OMG, heaven on earth.

1991 - an absolutely thrilling year. Also the first time I was to witness the Saints making finals football. I attended every game in Victoria. Before Lockett and Winmar's comebacks in round 7 we were well positioned. It was always going to be a cracking year.

The Elimination Final felt like a Grand Final.

For me:

1971 Close but no sigar

1997 Ditto

2004 Played the most entretaining footy in the club history, unluky not to bring the bacon home.

2009 Most succesful year ever.

2005 Elimination final versus the crows has to be the most emotional game of footy I have seen. I was at the social club and when the siren sounded I had moist eyes, and I remember Yipper giving a bear hug that almost cacked a few ribs, not that would even realised it happened.

2010 The fight back from a shacking strart of the season and making the GF has to be imortalised in the Saints history.

All in all I don't have a favourite year, following the saints has been a rollercoaster that I have enjoyed for the last 44 years, and I pray for many more, with a few premierships to our name.

Every year is a great year to follow the Saints - win, lose or draw.

Games:

1972 - Richmond at Moorabbin - Big Carl kicked 5 - ran a round all day making the tigers look like kittens.

1973 - 1st Final Essendon at Waverley - gave them a spanking - Georgie Young was ona half forward flank and licked 5 or 6.

Dr.Spaceman you can call him whatever you want. A little bit later on maybe a season or two - I seem to think it was but could be wrong, The Captain and The Major were doing a wrap up of a game where G.Young had kicked a bag. Ian Major asked Jack what he thought of Young as a player and Jack said he was that good they had already written a song about him. Of course Major and everyone listening had no idea what Jack was talking about. So Jack then said the song "Hey there Georgie boy". Jack had it mucked up as usual - the Seekers had a song called "Hey there Georgie Girl" but that was Jack.

Anyway for us he was always Georgie from then on. But I suppose for you it is Darrel and Trevor and Jeff and Robert and Robert and Stewart and Anthony and Nick.

And as much as you are free to chose that way I am free to refer to them as Doc and Barks and Joffa and Elf and Banger and Buckets and Plugger and Rooey.

Each to their own

hungry for a premiership wrote:Ive been a Saints member since 1989, when I was 8 years old, so thats 22 seasons to choose from.

1991 was a fantastic year. Lockett, Winmar, Frawley, Loewe, Mcadam, Davenport, Pekin. Some cracking games at moorabin, and we made the finals for the first time in, like, 20 years.

1992 was similar, and the elimination final vs collingwood that we won by 8 points (the first final we'd won since the 70's) was one of the best games I've ever seen.

1997 was the 2nd best season I've ever seen us produce. Finished on top of the ladder, best game of the season was the prelim vs North. Aussie Jones, Tony Brown, Joel Smith, Jason Heatley, Harvey, Bourke, Loewe, Winmar.

1998 wasn't bad, but ended badly with 2 straight finals defeats and the sacking of Alves.

2004 was fresh and exciting.

2005 ended badly. The prelim loss to Sydney was the 2nd most heartbreaking loss I've ever experienced behind the '09 GF.

2009 best season I've ever seen us produce

2010 couragous effort.

Best games: 1992 elimination final vs Collingwood. '97 prelim vs North. '04 round 6 vs Brisbane. '09 round 14 vs Geelong.
All great calls - the only other game i'd add to your best game list would be the Adelaide final 2005 - huge feral Adelaide crowd, looked gone but hit back, Banger at his absolute greatest - we sang to about 3 in the morning - I get goose bumps just writing about it!

Look again it's the Flash!!

1997 we should have won. Stitching up North at night at the "G" was just great. Pity we could not go all the way, we deserved too.

2004 my favourite. Low expectations (at the beginning) and witnessed some of the most exciting football I've seen from any team. Tough, attacking and uncompromising footy, similar to Geelong 07-11.

2005 and 2006 were major disappointments as hope was built from 04. Still some enjoyable moments.

09 would come in second. The first 18 or so rounds anyway. You could say that we steadily declined into an over the top defensive outfit from about then until Lyon's departure.

10 was one of the most frustrating seasons that I've ever watched. Of course a Flag would have made it more than worthwhile. But what a horrible brand of footy we played.

Wash your mouth out :sarcasm: How many times do I need to remind you that any criticism of the MESSIAH is as unwelcome as any praise of the GT era on this site!

Riewoldt and Goddard to live up to their reputations ,Clarke and Ray to defy theirs in 2012!

04 and 09. Followed by 97.

Success is most exciting when you don't expect it.

Years like 98, 05 and 10 were all atonement years so the enjoyment of the journey was tempered because it was all about the destination.
