“And the Saints are off…..â€

Post: # 1151578Post Dr Spaceman »

With all the serious stuff, crap stuff and trolling stuff going on at the moment, I thought I’d start this little thread for some light relief.

Over the years there have been many thoroughbreds, pacers and greyhounds with racing names linked to this mighty club of ours. Others have been owned by people associated with the club and in some instances trained by them (the legendary Darrel Baldock for instance).

I’ll kick it off with three greyhounds I have owned.

* Plugger Power (late eighties) – Multiple winner on the provincial circuit. Geelong Cup finalist.

* Plugger Fever (early nineties) - Multiple city winner including the 1993 Silver Chief at the old Olympic Park.

* Owenda Saints (late nineties) - Multiple winner on the provincial circuit.

There was also another handy greyhound simply named Plugger in the mid eighties, though I had no connection with that one.

Let’s add to the list :)

Enry Walt is currently a gun greyhound, named after N. Riewoldt,
owned by Saints fan Gary Ennis,
son of Primo Uno and Awesome Saint. (Not Gary, the greyhound).
And there was a greyhound "Banger Harvey" going round last year.

When I was in Ireland I saw there was a dog called Mad Milne in one of the races

Bet a lot on it

Came last

Oh well, live in learn

(By the way, if anyone steals my projected horse name, Too Good To be Glue, I'll be mad!)

You can listen to Bristle tell you Carlton are still a massive chance at 28 points down with two minutes to go, you can listen to him tell you all about Lorne, or you can watch a monkey on a pushbike...I know which I prefer...

Was paying over 100/1 and was an emergency. Best 20 Bucks I have ever spent!

Didn't quite make it in town but did ok on the provincials, running 2nd in the Warnambool Classic, same litter as Plugger Fever (and same trainer!)

Friend of mine had a race horse called Toy Saint, which incidently seems to be his call sign for this forum.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

There was a horse named Harvey running back in the early 2000s which I believe was named after the great man.

And I believe trainer Cliff Brown is a Saints supporter and he reflects this in his stable silks
