What's the Team for 2012

Post: # 1137767Post robsaint »

Put in your 22 for 2012. Consider realistic trades and pickups from the VFL/WAFL etc. We may want to trade a top line player for a gold coast Star or someone from GWS who has impressed. Kept it realistic. Nothting stupid like trading R.Clarke for Judd or Swallow. Consider what we need to pick up, speed in the mid field? forward target to releave roo? in and under midfielder.

looks ok. Missed Peake and Dempster though, unless they are reserves.

As much I'd love this, I doubt Gold Coast would go for it.

not sure why gold coast would trade out dixon when a good key forward takes a while to develop and is a crucial element of a successful side.

here's my thoughts, position by position:

Ruck:
McEvoy
backups: Koschitzke, Blake, Stanley

Midfield:
Hayes, Dal Santo, Montagna, Goddard, Jones, Steven, Polo
backups: Armitage, Ray, Peake, Gram, Geary, Ledger, Cripps, Smith

Tall Forward
Riewoldt, Koschitzke
backups: Gamble, Walsh, Stanley, Lynch, Johnson/Cahill/Archer (only one stays on)

Small Forward
Milne, Schneider, Peake
backups: Armitage, Siposs, Cripps

Tall Back
Dawson, Fisher, Gwilt
backups: Blake, Clarke, Simpkin, Lynch

Small Back
Dempster, Clarke
backups: Geary, Polo

which suggests a 32 man first-team squad of something like:

FB: Blake, Dawson, Gwilt
HB: Clarke, Fisher, Dempster
C: Montagna, Hayes, Goddard
HF: Peake, Riewoldt, Armitage
FF: Milne, Koschitzke, Schneider
R: McEvoy, Dal Santo, Jones
IC: Gram, Ray, Steven, Polo, Geary, Ledger, Cripps, Simpkin, Gamble, Walsh, Lynch, Siposs, Stanley, Smith

the rest are less likely for mine: winmar, crocker, ferguson, curren, three draft picks. gone are gilbert, gardiner, baker, eddy, mcqualter, heyne, andreoli (?) and some combination of archer, cahill and johnson (maybe all three).

nfi who gets traded in so i haven't considered that. looking at the squad above we really need some ruck backup, and if that person could also play as a goalkicking forward that would be ideal. not sure how many of them are out there seeing as mitch clark is likely to go to freo.

I think that Roo's role could be on the ball, in a ruck-rover capacity. Play Walsh at Centre Half Forward, Kosi at Full FOrwrd, and Siposs to slip into FF when Kosi goes to the ruck. Cripps also to be in our starting line up.

No way will the Suns do it. Smith and Matera will both be elite. Be a massive loss to them and a massive win for us

Maybe throw in Armo. Only problem is I think Dixon is a queensland boy may not want to come to melbourne.

Love Crocker's left foot. A skill we really struggle with. Hope he can have a strong pre season, put on some beef and play more footy next year. It would be great if the kid we could come on quickly like some of the other young guys in the comp.

Maybe next year, but more likely 2013 before he will start to make an impact at AFL level.

Hopefully 2 out of Cripps, Ledger, Crocker and Sipposs can be regulars and contributing to us winning games by the end of next year.

I like this side but Dawson omitted (or traded preferably) and either Blake or Simpkin at FB.

This team will be stronger in 2013. Ledger, Crocker, Cripps and Siposs to get some bulk and fitness. Core group will be 30.

That side to me shows that we have real issues. You have 6 players there with less than 10 games each. If they all play in the same side we will struggle to beat any top 10 side. I am not saying the side isnt how they will line up but that proves we have a huge gap in player experience.

Are any of the Lions young guys from Melbourne originally? I'm talking players like Rockcliff, polkinghorne, redden, etc.

Can we entice any our way? They are all gonna be very good players
