I'm not sure why this is even a source of conjecture.

He's probably the easiest person to identify on our list given the fact he is 200cms and runs like the wind.

I didnt attend but he certainly didnt train.

That narrows it down to a 50-50 with Rhys Stanley.

OK, forgot about him. :p

That being said I'd imagine most people here could identify Rhys and could tell the difference between the two.

Having said that, Plugger seems pretty sure he didn't train. Perhaps they are confusing him with one of our existing talls. He's a couple of inches shorter but maybe they are confusing Gaertner with Jackson Ferguson who is reported to be very athletic. I wouldn't have a clue what he looks like.

someone on here said they saw him training and that had been confirmed by a press guy standing next to him...but other than that f***ed if i know...

actually it was bob murray...this is from his post

"I went to training today and i initially asked a saints staff member if Gaertner had quit and he said No,he's still here and some reporter who was standing beside me said he was still on the list....

I'm sure Steven Gaertner was there training in Paul Hudson's development group and Milney was shouting out encouragement..."your training well Steven, keep up the good work".

I did my best to get it clarified while i was at training that ...

1/Gaertner had quit....1 Saints official and a press person told me he hadn't
2/I also asked if he was training and the official said yes.....

I then checked out all the taller players and made an assumption that the one in Hudson's group was Gaertner....it could have been Ferguson..

i don't really know what either look like...

maybe the official was spinning me a yarn...

i was hoping you lot could sort it out......

A lot of concern over a rookie

Thanks Bob

It's easy for me to throw stones but I didn't go to training because of a reluctance to wake up early and get stuck in peak hour traffic!

We appreciate the effort people like yourself go to for our benefit.

I reckon you may find the young fella presented himself in a sub-standard condition on his return to training and a certain demander of standards was none too impressed.

From there certain inevitabilities played out.

He is still on St Kilda's list as published by the AFL.
That means the AFL recognises him as occupying a rookie place, and thus prevented St Kilda from having an extra rookie draft pick.

However his deletion from the Saints.com.au rookie list seems ominous and would suggest St Kilda no longer recognises him as a rookie player.

There seems to have been a rule change that Hawthorn and Richmond are eligible to exploit, having left a vacancy on their rookie lists.
I don't know if Gaertner can be delisted from the AFL's list to enable St Kilda to also exploit this change.
I believe that the change entitles the clubs with a rookie vacancy to fill those vacancies before the season commences with a prospect player training with them.
But please don't quote me on that, even the reference where I read it has vanished.
