Congratulations Jason Blake

Post: # 1019997Post joffaboy »

The whipping boy for years is now a veteran.

Has been coached by Tim Watson, Blight, Thomas, and Lyon.

Has played as a stopper, as a backman, hasbeen pushed forward, and has effectively rucked for seasons with Thomas and as recently as the drawn Grand Final.

These type of selfless players are what clubs are built on.

A good ordinary player who has done everything within his power and limited skill set to be an AFL footballer....and has done so for going into his 12 season on a senior list.

Gotta love the Blake.

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

I'd argue that he is a blinding kick and that he's tough.

Some people like to knock the bloke with comments such as "we'll never win a GF with Blake in the side".

That of course is crap!

No side has ever played with 22 superstars on the field - NO SIDE. It just can't happen, particularly so with the Draft and salary cap. Every premiership team contains several good, honest players.

Like joffaboy I dips me lid to Blakey :)

I didnt realise he was around in Watsons day.

Agree with all the above. Every team needs a "Blakey"

I don't have a number on the back of my jersey, but I was going to get #27 on it. For mine, favorite player.

Like it's been said above, he's got limited talent, but the bloke has a heart the size of Phar Lap.

Love the Blake!!

Nice one chopps....

I've also noted he's an incredibly courageous player.

That may be but with salary caps etc, we might not have someone like Dal Santo if we'd taken Chapman instead of Blake.

We can't have drafted all the stars. We need some Jason Blakes..

Gee that bloke is persistent. Yes i've derided him in the past but what an attitude he has. Just keeps fighting the long defeat with his team mates!

An 'ordinary' backman who was a foundation member of one of history's most impenetrable backlines.
That's a real honour. Almost as good as it gets.
Well done and thank you Jason Blake.

Every successful club needs a workhorse like the Blake.
Rarely beaten, always gives 100% and bleeds for his team mates.
He would be the first player you would pick after you had finished with the elite group.
Bad players don't play as many games as Blakey has played in a team that has missed the finals series only once since 2004.
Well done Blakey, just hope you get that premiership medallion that you, and many others deserve.
Also hope you finally get a brownlow vote, surely they should have given you one for your performance against Hawthorn in 08 when you played a very big part in turning that game around.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Can you imagine the shape of Chapman's hamstrings had he played Thomas era at St Kilda...

As much as I think he is a contributor in our team at the moment why are we praising one of the less talented players out of our best 18?

Who was Collingwood's Jason Blake?

Geelong's?

Hawthorn's?

Because hes achieved something you never will.

What have other teams got to do with Jason?

If you dont like it that some supporters like the guy then go back to where you crawled back out from and keep your negativity to your lonely self 8-)

Of course I never will play AFL. Neither will you? See I can play that game too...

What I am saying is is over the past couple of years whilst most saints supporters have backslapped each other for our 'success' we have even praised gop's that really shouldn't be praised so frequently as in this case Jason Blake is/has been.

None of those sides have a Blake.

I'm glad.

Your point again? I missed it...

Where are other teams weirdly overly praised gop?

Kicks: 8.5 - 8.5
Disposals: 16.2 - 15.4
Marks: 6.8 - 5.5

Also pretty close in spoils, contested marks and contested possessions:

(during H+A)
1%: 5.2 - 7.6
CM: .86 - .78
CP: 4.8 - 6.6

So who was Collingwood's Jason Blake? That'd be this guy:

EDIT: Switched to avgs since the Collingwood guy missed four games.

You cant compare Maxwell to Blake.

Whilst I agree with you regarding the similarities in the two players, one obviously is a leader of men and whatever he says behind closed doors assists the playing group as...they beat us for the flag...

Geelong picked David Spriggs, Ezra Bray and Daniel Foster before Chapman.

If every 1 out of 4 players picked would become a dual premiership player and a norm smith medalist i would not complain.

Spriggs was going to be a good player before doing his knee wrecked his career and Bray should have been better but battled some issues (i remember reading an article a while back).

So your point is?

A 200 game AFL player compared to nobody and nobody from nowhere?

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

29 Years of age and has played 187 games.

No one plays that amount of games if they are ordinary.

He may not be the most talented, but he shows guts and strong discipline.

A possible 200 gamer Saint Player. You should all be applauding his efforts.
