Sellers gives an explanation for our woes

Post: # 1721163Post St. Paul »

Sellers McClure just gave some mail on what's been wrong at the saints. Apparently there was a team meeting where AR outlined the game plan for this week. Apparently the playing group attacked him and demanded they go back to Six man forward lineup and calling for an end to the ovely defensive style. Man on
Man today. Expect a fired up saints team.

Oh this sounds wonderful.

I think the mail on a team meeting is correct.

Dont think Richo was there though. He wasnt invited.

I guess the senior players then had a meeting with the coach to tell him how it will be.

We set up much differently today. More in line with last year's game plan. It made a massive difference.

Glad the players took some ownership
But seriously concerning that the coaching staff couldn’t recognise what the players obviously could.

I'm sure the players told him "Alan, it just doesn't work!!" We could see it, the commentators could see it. Unfortunately, it's cost us games

its the old 'disconnect' between differing facets of an organisation

one of my mentors swears by the 'Observer Role'

his / her only task ... is to observe the goings on ... with eyes , ears , heart 'n intuition

(from , what is called the positionless position ... which is a tad difficult , until practiced)

its not an exercise in blame n shame
but a continuing exercise in .... 'seeing' the disconnects ... that create havoc via the true trickle down effect
in a mob who are not on the same page

We had 207 kicks and 163 handballs, which was step in the right direction. We need to get that up to 230 kicks and 130 handballs. You will note that "high handball" team Adelaide abandoned that game last night as well. There was a period of play last night when Adelaide had the ball on their backline and handballed 4 times - none of which resulted in a mark. They lost the ball and a goal ensured. They got the message at quarter time. Our field kicking was quite good today, nearly as good as GWS. Fortunately, their kicking for goal was worse than ours has been recently - not something you would have thought possible

A credit to Richo listening to the players but jeepers its scary that Richo and his assistants arent identifying those issues throughout games. Anyway there is more than one way to approach coaching and if having the players more involved in planning works Im all for it.

Players having to tell a coach how we ought to set up is just alarming - for the coach....

Very concerning indeed. I like Richo and want him to succeed, but how can he not realise that his plan isn't working? He keeps blaming the players, "many out of form", but it's so clearly obviously to everyone outside, and I know nothing about football.

Making something out of nothing here. We don't really know what went down.

At least they sorted it. We matched the top side in every stat, drew with them and killed them on the inside 50's.

Whatever the Saints did, they need to keep implementing it and forget the first 4 weeks.

the top end of an organisation can lose its way just as easily as the middle and bottom
... the top end is striving for a 'future' and can quite easily be blinded to the present
which leaves the middle n bottom experiencing 'a lack of clarity' that is reality across the entity

its , imo , a good thing to have 'evolved' through
given
the bigger picture of what we are trying to achieve

so ... lets see

hopefully we have grown in wisdom a tad
and its not productive to flush the baby with the koolaide

go us

How on earth would that geriatric fool know what’s happening in the inner sanctum of our club???

I don’t really care how it came about - all I care about was the fantastic effort the boys put in and how we back it up in Tassie next week.

But if your using Mark McClure sharing whispers as gospel to push an anti-Richardson agenda, then I really feel for you.

Go Saints.

He's a former assistant coach at the club, adviser on recruiting, has a number of friends in the inner sanctum and still has contact with some current players. How do you get an anti-Richardson agenda out of this? If anything, it is to AR's credit that if the players gave him feedback, and he took it on board to get a result, then I would have thought McLure's comments were supportive.

In any event, it appears he was on the money before the game about the way we were going to structure up and play. Not bad for a geriatric fool. No other commentator picked it. I really feel for you. Your envy of a former triple premiership player and your failure to grasp a simple concept is indicative of someone who is projecting their own inadequacies on someone far more qualified and ITK than yourself.
