Yeah, remember that one time Longer broke even with the opposing ruckman?!?

Marshall should be picked every week unless he totally falls over, ruckwork and tank will only improve by playing, in every other aspect he is already miles ahead of Longer
He won the hit outs over Gawn R21, but Melbourne's midfield were loving his beautiful taps to advantage.

Showed more around the ground than the other 2 but was like a boy against a man as the game went on . Good news is Geelong does have a weakness in the ruck - stanley was there last week FFS.

The reason Adelaide were confused in the first half and they were distracted was because they couldn't believe that Richo was playing Longer in the Saints line up instead of Marshall. Once they realised that Richo has no idea about team selection and St Kilda in general makes poor decisions regarding player development (like not realising how to retain a talent like Tom Lynch) they just played their normal game, and blew us out of the contest

I think we have found an excellent second ruck, but based on his mobility and marking I think Marshall will be best value at centre half forward.
We simply have to bring in another ruck or persuade one of Pierce or Hickey to become AFL ruckman.
Longer will always be slaughtered around the ground when not contesting the ruck.

Our excitement over marshal just shows how s*** Longer is. Because Marshal can actually run, mark, contest, handball and kick (fundamental skills of afl football) we believe he might be the next Gawn...we are so far off it not funny. Marshall was good...I hope he playes ahead of those one two s*** trucks

I know it's only a small sample size, but Marshall also gained close to 300 metres for the team with his 9 kicks and 5 handballs - while Longer averaged 20 metres per game in 2017 (and only 1.4 kicks)
His marks around the ground, mobiity and chasing were a positive last night.
We only lost the clearances by 3 - 34 to 31.His 2 negatives were - he gave away 3 free kicks to Jacobs - and he turned over the ball 6 times.

Longer's injured and Hickey amongst the best in the reserves yesterday so in he comes to assist Marshall next week. Now that Membrey isn't there, he can play in the forward pocket or back pocket. Geelong sometimes play two rucks. This will also allow Bruce to play forward for four quarters. We need somebody who can actually take a mark in the forward line for once. If we don't play two ruckmen this week I don't know what to say really.

We're at Geelong next Sunday and it's Ablett's prodigal son returns match so the selection committee need to make practical changes to ensure that we do not get a cricket score kicked against us, because, take note St K coaches, we're struggling to score and it could get ugly. Real ugly. We need to at least try to stretch them with height. The players and coaches are not always aware of history. They come and go. But as a supporter and member of long standing I hope that they go over the history of results down there, because if they don't they may end up looking very embarrassed.

Butchers of the ball need to come out. I am not calling for wholesale changes but against a side who use the ball as well as they do we can't have players who turn the ball over as often as some of our players do. There would be at least two changes to the side which played last night.

We saw what we got last night when we injected some enthusiasm into the team with Coffield and Marshall, but we also saw what happened when a mystifying selection was made to replace Membrey, so the selection committee need to be temperate in their selections.

BTW is the Lamb who plays for Sandringham Ian Cooper's gandson?

Stretching them with height only works if we mark the ball (not something we have achieved in a while) otherwise Geelong will just mop up and run the ball out again.

Adding Battle in with more mobility may help, and, he seems to actually be able to kick goals.

While it's a two edged sword I would have Paddy back at Sandringham to try and build up his marking confidence and to get more shots on goal to practice his kicking as well. I accept that putting him back could affect his confidence too but see it as the better option for the long run.

Yes, I'd bring Battle in. Good call. I would definitely play a second ruckman though. With their midfield we cannot risk losing a ruckman through fatigue or injury.
Give Paddy one more week at senior level. He deserves a full month of senior games to try to improve. If he struggles on Sunday next, then the selection committee can consider dropping him, but give him another week, maybe two, first. He deserves every opportunity to prove himself. If he does get dropped he will need to work his way back into the side - it's his fourth season so no more gifts from now on. The pinch is off.

So McCartin is a snowflake and we dont want to upset his feelings?
That is what I am hearing.
This is AFL footy ffs. Not the under 8s.

Marshall wont survive all 20 games this season but at least he can play the game.
A couple of pre-seasons to build on his tank and he will be genuine. He is listed at 201 cm so he big enough.
Definitely found a Ruck there imo.
