LIFT YOUR GAME SAINTS....

Post: # 1713984Post The Linton Street Flash »

What’s up with the general lack of activity on the Saints website and social media of late?

A year or so ago it was pumping, but now it’s ground to an almost halt.

The season is about to start but you wouldn’t know it from looking at the website - there’s a few ultra pedestrian pieces like “Stevens firms for Rnd 1” (yawn) and a batsh@t dull thing about the Captain and how he once booted 7 goals as a junior (FFS) - is this really the best they can do????

For a club that made a bold statement a few years ago that it’d have 50k members by 2018, it’s pretty bloody lame.

Whoever is doing this has access to every player on the list, the entire club staff, past players, future players, their families, wives, GF's, children etc, as well as 40K fans, BUT on the eve of the season they can’t think of anything to post. Really??

Seriously take a look at it, it’s absolutely PATHETIC!

What about the move back to Moorabbin? It’s the biggest thing to happen to the club in eons and there’s barely a mention of it online -WTF?

Really the whole thing would be laughable if it wasn't so potentially damaging...

Whoever is behind our online efforts now obviously doesn’t give a s***, it’s absolutely plain to see - they are just running through the motions and you can tell they do not have an ounce of genuine interest in, or passion for this football club.

FFS hand the job over to some FANS, people with a passion and interest in St Kilda who might be able to work on a level to engage other St KILDA FANS.

While I’m on the subject I gots to say whoever came up with the groundbreaking slogan of “Get Your Halos On in 2018”, and the lame, thoughtless marketing assets and TVC that supports it, should really look for a new career - is that really the best you could come up with? Really???

Lift your game ST KILDA your efforts to engage your fans are PISS WEAK!!!!

...don’t get me started on the bumper STICKERS that look like they were designed by the work experience kid and DON’T STICK!!!!

Okay, it’s small stuff I know, but greatness starts with pouring love into the tiniest of details, details that obviously mean nothing to the powers that be at St Kilda, if this club wants to ride up then it’s high time it got its sh@t together!

Thank you for your time.

End of rant.

:)

The club needs somebody to oversee a complete media and communications overhaul.

- Generating actual positive publicity in MSM.
- Generating much MORE content overall through club channels.

We did go through a period 3-4 years ago where the club content was really good. Regular, interesting, insightful. But it's absolutely hit the wall of late.

We've almost become completely invisible.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

A very fine rant, too, TLSF. Hate to agree with you because I want nothing more than for us to succeed. The problem is this malaise seems to have affected the entire club this preseason. We've been flat on field as well. I just hope we're foxing ahead of round 1. As for those bumper stickers, the club should demand replacements from the manufacture. You were being generous when you attributed it's design to the work experience kid.

"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

The Linton Street Flash ............... your words above are the best and truest thing I’ve read on this site for quite sometime.

And I thank you for your rant (not that I interpreted it that way), IMHO you accurately identify lack of intesting or newsworthy information coming out from the Saints this pre season. Each day I go into Saints.com hoping to see something with a bit of Wow factor, to really get me excited about the coming season, alas I’m mostly disappointed.

As the song says ‘From little things, big things grow........” C’mon Saints, as TLSF says, attend those tiniest of details and loyal supporters will spark up and come along with you.

Thanks Everton and Drake and Loris.

Yep, I agree completely that the club needs to completely revamp its media/marketing department, it’s seriously at crisis point - they really couldn’t come up with worse attempts to engage their fan base if they tried.

What happened? How did it plummet so spectacularly?

I think Drake is right, there is a malaise - Lord knows why? but there is.

Fancy it being the eve of season 2018, the season where we’ve been promised a return to the higher echelons of the ladder, where we’re returning to our spiritual base, where we have an almost full young list to pick from, but we struggle to come up with content - what is going on?

Whose job is it and why are they being allowed to run it, and us, into the ground?

The sticker thing is a pet peeve of mine - I have had mine on my car since Jan, my car is parked mostly in a garage, probably sees far less weather than most cars on the road, yet the sticker started peeling after a few days.

I see other Saints stickers on other cars and they too are peeling - from the exact same spot (top left).

This is the not the first time either, year after year it’s the same story.

Are there cheaper, crappier stickers on the market than the ones St Kilda purchase every year?? I doubt there are...

Is there a design that displays less thought, imagination and basic design skills that our current sticker? I doubt there is...

Stickers are a great marketing tool as they are a highly visible way to show your allegiances, but they are treated with utter disdain by the club.

The very same disdain that we supporters are treated with.

It’s pathetic.

I had to get some bumper stickers made a few years back for my business, I got them designed by a decent designer, and printed by a company that specialises in them - they’re dye cut, vinyl, with bright colours and after 2 years of exposure to the elements, they’re as good now as the day they were first applied.

They cost sweet FA too and they’re excellent.

This was my very first time getting stickers made - I put half an ounce of thought and effort into them and they are a complete success.

Why is it St Kilda struggle with such a menial task - a task they repeat year after year with the same hopeless results? What does this say about this club? To me it says a LOT.

Seriously Saints, lift your game - if you wanna be great then start thinking and acting great.

Sheesh!!

Bit strange as nothing on TV news regarding Moorabbin, the AFL or Saints website. Is there an official opening this week or later on perhaps?

There are some pics coming through on twitter and facebook.

Maybe the staff is flat out moving in from Seaford.

Side note: the joint looks fantastic so far! :D

Club is happy trying to fly under the radar and create zero waves.

Spineless. The club has no spirit. At least we had something when we created "The Bubble"

To me it looks like they put all their effort into the Facebook and Instagram pages instead. I guess this is fine for my generation who are addicted to social media, but for the rest, our website is the main resource for information and its our official page so its pretty poor.

On a side note I'm seriously worried about our membership base and what we are doing as a club to attract and obtain members. When we're struggling on field, your marketing team really needs to get creative and come up with some new initiatives to gain members. Having a decent website would probably be a good place to start.

To be fair, our membership is currently ahead of last season at the same time, and is the 5th highest in our history without a ball being kicked yet.

The clubs love their access to social media - it’s the one place that isn’t run by Gill and his gestapo.

Let’s just play some good footy and none of this stuff will matter (as much!!)

The move from Seaford to Moorabbin is monumental.

And remember the handover was 2 weeks AHEAD of schedule - so the pack up of Seaford in reddiness for the move
back to our spiritual home would have been sped up.

Our work moved a couple of years ago and it was a big and very disruptive process with many distractions to the core business.

Sure, we could’ve moved as originally planned in a fortnight but given the chance to move before the season
starts is like gold.

Give it a week, and it should be all systems running more smoothly. Expect several teething issues and some very weary staff!

This morning I got an e-mail from the Saints apologising that the phone system was down and they hoped to get it rectified ASAP.

Yes sp teething problems do happen with big moves, so patience Sainter supporters.

I’ve been involved in some large employment moves, from vicinity to vicinity and it is so, so stressful. No matter how well the project was managed - so many things have to be put on the back burner, even if it’s only for a day or two, then for weeks you are playing catch up.
I just hope it hasn’t been too disruptive for the playing group. At least the move is over before the season starts - it would IMHO been more acute if the move happened as the season started or a week or two into the games.
Well done to those responsible for getting the move ahead of schedule!
