I won’t pass judgement until the season is finished Then I can say I told you so...but it’s not just my opinion but it is the opinion of many good footy minds ( who by the way can be totally wrong) that our mids have potential to be stronger our defence is in a pickle as we are missing a key defender and our forward line is missing a key forward and YES that means Paddy won’t be our guy. If he stays healthy the games will prove he’s a very decent player but not a star to build a team around. I am willing to cop it but we have a serious crisis at ruck. We need a strong and dominant ruck but we can’t seem to get more than a season out of them without injuries then we swap back to last seasons starter. I don’t see either Hickey or Longer as the long term answer not sure if our young stock are it - I honestly don’t have insights on the guys like Pierce who look ok. Don’t get me wrong- Hickey and Longer have great games at times.
That said I fully expect to finish in 8th this season and maybe 7th next season and unless we move on some big guns ( that’s not grabbing old stars ala Sloane but real threats with 7-9 years in them we will slide back again in 2020.

I think this year we will have what all teams who are a bit great and a bit awful have - amazing wins and sloppy slips.
I pray I am totally wrong. But I believe I am a person who loves his club but is ok With the truth of where we are without having to say every player is a Star when they clearly are not in any way nor believe every year we are a just inches from a grand final.

This. Although we do have close to a full strength side in and we absolutely flogged them in the corresponding match last year.

I used to think it was the umpires' fault. I am beginning to think it is actually the way we play. If you play dumb reactive footy and the other team are first to the ball they are going to win the free kicks.

Also; we need our ruckman to be competitive. Not just at the throw ins but around the ground. Time to give Hickey another go. Getting smashed in the midfield, and Kreuzer is having a field day.

How does a umpire miss that free to McCartin? Clear free directly in front.

And again surely they have had all friggin' summer to come up with a better idea than Gilbert or Bruce 2nd ruck.

We look very, very, ordinary.

A summer of hype from the players and coaches, then they dish up this in first indication of how we're tracking. They seriously need to stfu talking themselves up

Why are we not playing a ruckman?

Not to be a wank ( totally am ) but Carlton is much Better than some give them credit for and they are growing some sweet homegrown talent. We too have players that could be firing but seeing several of them bent over sucking air I am not impressed with our conditioning coach. Malcolm Bright said during old NAB Cup about fitness levels in a season...RIGHT NOW is the fittest they will be all season.
That’s tops for us.
Wait till Roo get back in the game.

There's going to be a lot more this season with this current list, that's a certainty.
