The good
*more players entering the 50-100 game brackets means increased skill
*Our goal kicking improves which mean more close wins than loses
*Our Defence becomes one of the best
*more games pumped into Marshall, Battle & Long
*With no Roo Skunk get more of the ball and scores more goals
*Steele become an a grade inside mid due to his defence. And improved disposal
*Paddy learns to protect himself
*Jack Steven learns how to play with a tag
*Brown continues his good form and holds down his position for another year giving other KDP time to grow

The bad
*Injuries still plague Armo, Freeman & Goddard and get few games
*Saints fans finally realise that Paddy isnt' going to be the great white hope and becomes a serviceable forward at best
*The extent of Roo & Joey absence is really felt when mistakes made due to inexperience hurt us
*Richo still doesn't have a plan b or c game style
*No outside mid to support Jack Steven so he gets double team and gets soft tissue injuries from workload
*We go back to long bombs into 50
*Jake Carlisle is in mark of the year again
*Still over handball a lot
*Still struggle with interstate trips
*Finish lower on the ladder

I hate to say it but we put too many eggs into the free agent basket this year and got burnt. We simply don't have enough guns in the midfield especially on the outside now and it will show. Only real hope is that some one really steps up and i mean massively.

Saints will win 12 games.
5 of the first 8;
5 of the last 8; and
2 of the middle 6.

We have a very tough draw in the middle of the season.

Saints will make the 8 mainly down to the form of Billings, Steele, Gresham and improved goal kicking all round.

Will pick up 20 points in percentage.
Will make the 8 with 14 wins.
6 players will kick 30 or more goals.
We will be hard to score against and rank highly in possession totals.
Coffield Clark Conellan Freeman Logan and Paton to debut.

So far as I can see, we have 4 guys who have scored 5 or more goals in a game, Gresh, Billings, Bruce, Members

If McCartin can make it 5 players.. that would be a pretty potent and diverse forward line. Here's hoping!

Barring injury Membrey Bruce Billings and Gresh should be shoe ins. McCartin and Weller are both capable of it and Battle and Marshall are the hopefuls. I just have a feeling a mid might step up into a bonefide goal kicker too. I'm backing Acres.

Other teams passing us,
Norf n Carlscum especially

Richo was a bit deluded in 2017 and will continue
with having NO plan b or c.
Still playing Gilbo which costs us games
Ross continues racking up big numbers but never gets a tag
as his disposals continue going to the worst option or to a contest.
Paddy only plays 3-5 games as keeps getting hurt.
We finish 12th

GWS won’t win the flag.

Richmond to make top 4.

Saints to win 12-14 games.

Logan will be a find.

Our young recruits to get regular games and to play well.

Gilbo’s last season.

A club for any player past his best.

10-12 wins
Older players continue to burn the ball under pressure
Younger players gain consistency and become match winners
By season end younger players (years 1-5) will be leading the way and signal a changing of the guard
Big clean out of older players at end of season making way for lots of picks in the draft.

Can’t see a big clean out as Gilbert and perhaps Brown are the only candidates.
If the development of the young players continue we should be a contender.

Ok Ill have a go!

Saints
Connellan to be the surprise packet of the season and turn on some WTF! performances.
Mav to go back being a negative midfielder and be much improved in a tagging role.
Coffield to send Saints fans gaga. Paton to put serious pressure on Newnes for a spot. Clark and Clavarino to spend time getting their bodies up to the rigours of AFL footy.
Debate about the Ruck position will continue.
Saints to be in and around 6-8th.
Sandy to be back in the top 4.
Acres B & F.

AFL
Bennell to star.
Brisbane to be a surprise packet and get off the bottom. Alex Witherden to win Rising Star.
Suns to continue to struggle regardless of the new coach coming in.
More betting scandals.
Richmond to have a premiership hangover (fair enough).

Politics
Kim Jong-un to continue to bait the US.
Tony Abbott to get more and more desperate for media attention.

I dont think it is negative to have any opinion.

My hope is that we finish top of the ladder and win the grand final.
Realistic opinion is that we have the thinnest chance - like 10%, to finish 8th.

I bet mostly based on reality. We have plenty of decent talent and potential for 2 maybe 3 players to emerge as stars.
But our best laid plans went to rubbish. We didnt or couldnt get 2 stars into the club and next year will be no different with many clubs as well off as we are financially.

But an injection of cash from the stadium deal and morrabin have me hopeful a miracle occurs in 2018.

Back to earth I presume another year of mediocre AR coaching and fans applauding him.
Lots of blokes trying their best but many just not there yet.
