Doulton Langlands is an outside midfielder who is tied to the GWS Giants’ Academy. Considered a rookie prospect, Langlands has plenty of tools which can hurt opposition players, in particular his speed and deadly kicking. He finished the TAC Cup season with a kicking efficiency of 66 per cent and regularly showed plenty of X-factor along the wing. He needs to improve his endurance and inside game – just 36 per cent of his possessions were won in a contest – but his leadership and kicking is quite impressive.

"Doulton is an exceptional athlete with a great mix of power and speed. Played mainly as a defender but did play on a wing and kicked some goals. He's an intriguing player for clubs at the next level"
Murray Bushrangers coach Leon Higgins.

From June this year
DOULTON LANGLANDS | MURRAY
DEF | 29-07-99 | 187CM | 79KG
Langlands was involved in an intriguing match-up with Rebels forward Jordan Johnston, and probably prevailed on a points decision. Langlands was especially influential early on. He is an ideal size for recruiters and uses his frame to outwork his opponent to the ball, before using his speed to rebound the ball from defence. Langlands can be effective at both ends, as his four rebound 50s were accompanied by three inside-50s and a goal.

Then again in August
DOULTON LANGLANDS | MURRAY | DEF | 29-7-99 | 187CM | 79KG
Langlands was the best player on the ground until the unthinkable fourth quarter. He appeared to have more attacking freedom in the absence of All-Australian Ben Paton, who played for Collingwood’s VFL affiliate on the weekend. Langlands used this licence to great effect to link up play through the midfield with handball and plenty of gut-running. Recruiters will have been pleased to see his ability to accumulate possessions to compliment his already well-recognised defensive traits. He finished with 22 disposals and a goal.

An outside mid with sparking skills and an excellent defensive game.

Seems about perfect actually.

Sounds like he needs an extractor but we have plenty of those

From Snoop Dog on BigFooty:

"DOULTON LANGLANDS
MURRAY BUSHRANGERS / MEDIUM DEF / 188cm

Athletic type defender who showed a bit last year for the Bushies. Smart half back and uses his body to take gain advantage when the ball is coming in. He’s got some real ability at HB and clubs will come for him becase he has speed and can use the footy really well by foot. I haven’t seen a heap of him but the games I have he has displayed some genuine AFL attributes and I would think he goes as a rookie."

Based on descriptions so far, it looks like the brief was to get some outside speed with good foot skills, who can push back and defend when required.

Will be played as a winger rather than flanker is my bet. Good luck to the lad - will need to show something special to force his way in.
St Kilda - its character building.

“Deadly kicking”.

I don’t care if he plays a position we have 5 candidates for; foot skills are music to my ears.

We need Dead Eye Dicks. So, good call Saints. Worth a rookie trial.

Some Langlands stuff i found:

Murray Bushrangers vs. Gippsland Power
Doulton Langlands – Langlands doesn’t often stand out in any particular areas, but this was one of his better games as he made his mark with some great run and carry. He’s a regular across half-back for Murray and he played that quarterback-type role perfectly as he gathered a wealth of uncontested ball and running bounces. He also impacted the scoreboard with his sole major and three score assists from some sharp inside 50 entries.

Geelong Falcons vs. Murray Bushrangers
Doulton Langlands – Langlands was definitely one of the better Bushrangers, starting off half-back then moving through the midfield and finishing up forward. He created some line-breaking speed in the opening half, and while his decision making at times was questionable, he starred up forward late. Langlands finished the game with three majors and along with Joe Richards (four goals), was the major goal kicker for the Bushrangers.

Dandenong Stingrays vs. Murray Bushrangers
Doulton Langlands – This man’s work in the backline was a huge reason behind the close finish. His decision-making and running was a key factor behind his teams movement along the wing. When this kid grabbed the ball he was off. It could be easily argued that he was the biggest problem for Stingray’s forward line, being way too quick for any of their players. Langlands has a lot of potential, showing he can do at all if he’s needed to. If you ask me, he definitely has a future in this game.

Greater Western Victoria Rebels vs. Murray Bushrangers\
Showed poise coming off half back and was one of Murray’s best. He took a number of intercept marks in the defensive 50 and was a partner in crime with Samuel Beasley.

"Doulton Langlands (18 disposals, seven marks) was the difference in the contest, both racking up the ball through the midfield."

"Langlands is eligible to the open draft pool after GWS were stripped of part of their zone last month."

"The Bushies led all the way up to three quarter time, leading by a point, before Geelong kicked three goals to one, to finish victorious by 14-points.

Doulton Langlands had 28 disposals in the midfield for the Bushies, while forward Esava Ratugolea kicked four goals in the absence of Zach Sproule & Todd Marshall who were representing the Allies."

Hard to imagine the set of circumstances that would have to transpire that would see us promote a HB flanker rookie.

Has speed, good kick and has played back, but also midfield and forward. They are probably looking to develop him as wing/midfield with his attributes. Let's see how he goes - I am sure the club don't have him labelled as a "HB flanker"

nickname "Changa" I presume.

IF he is a 10th as good as his rugby league namesake, he will be a champion.
