2020 - Make Bruce/Goodard SWINGMEN = Flag

Post: # 1706329Post SMS »

Right now we seem to lack key defenders and have too many forwards.
I really believe we should get bonar and stephenson whom are both tall goalkicking mids w xfactor we need
That would leave us with Membrey, Battle, McCartin with Acres, Bonar, Stephenson 6 med/Tall forwards.

White. Austin/Goddard Webster
Roberton. Carlisle/Bruce. Newnes
Acres. Ross. Billings
Sinclair. Membrey/Goddard. Bonar
Gresham. McCartin/Bruce. Stephenson

Longer/Marshall. Steven. Steele (Sloane/Kelly)

Dunstan, Long, McKenzie, Freeman

Look how interchangable the team is. Thats a fast tough skilled team
Just make Bruce and Goddard swingmen imo.
AND we still have a gun free agent to add possibly Josh Kelly or Sloane

BONAR AND STEPHENSON PLEASE!!
This team would be unstoppable come 2020 if all went to plan not to mention Battle, Rice, Savage, Geary backups.

We have 4 key backs that are fit and ready for pre-season already - Carlisle, Brown, Goddard and Logan. Apparantly Marshall can play tall down back too so we have enough key backs. Plus we already have a plethora of key forwards when you add Marshall too.

Borwn is crap. Sorry but he is a liabiity and a back up only. TO win the flag Bruce being swingman is needed. Id rather McCartin Membrey Acres, Bonar/Battle be kicking for goal not bruce.

With Billy, Brown and last year's version of Paddy, we were three running players down. You can't carry that many in one team in the modern game. Brown is purely a stopper, who can't provide any form of attack. He negates well but simply doesn't get the ball. Billy has an excuse as he is a bit of a plodding ruckman, but his position is a specialist one, and he was at least getting more of the ball towards the back half of the season. One you can carry. He offers no spread, whatsoever. Hickey at his best is clearly the superior option for the modern game. I'm encouraged to hear Paddy has fined down and is working on his running and endurance. Quite frankly, he has been a liability so far with his lack of running and second efforts.

The good news is AR may use him in a role he is suited to. That of the power forward who stays close to goal, the way Dangerfield did this year. Paddy will never be a running beast. He is one of the worst runners on the list. However, he is clever, has great judgment and can really clunk his marks. He may benefit from the departure of Aaron "flat hands" Hamill. Hopefully, Henry Playfair can use him as he should be. No reason why Paddy can't become a 60 goals + a year forward. We don't need Paddy trying to run to the wings and back, looking for a kick. We need him to get it within kicking distance. Let Membrey, Bruce and Battle, the endurance beasts, play the Roo role. If Brown is in our best 22, we are in strife.

Uninformed outsiders like most of us, with no knowledge of the inner workings of a club, no idea about tactics and game plan-
How can we judge Brown poorly without knowing what the coaches ask of him?
He was cheap, he filled a void, he obviously did his 'job' as he kept getting picked...
He can't be a liability, he is an asset.
If Austin or whoever pushes him out, it's because they prove to be more of an asset than he is.
Don't rubbish a guy who would run in the Colorado heat until he pukes, and would take on the gorilla forwards without hesitation.

Without going into individuals and their ability I like where SMS is coming from in theory.

We do need a more mobile side. I think the idea of playing talls just for the sake of it is out of fashion. There is no point having talls who are useless.

Hate to say it - but Lyon would have been better off going more mobile in 2009/10 rather than sticking with Kosi as a tall for the sake of tradition.

A tall for the sake of traditional positions is no longer necessary. Talls should only play if there are actually good players and mobile.

Look at the grand final. The Tigers hardly had any talls and both Riewoldt and Rance are highly mobile.

The Crows were stuck with tall duds like Jenkins and Walker who were basically statues.

This 'secret inside role' stuff is such crap.
Footy is not rocket science. It is fairly obvious which players are good and which players arent so good.

Brown is a full back stopper and can handle the big guys and very good forwards. Yep, he doesn't get alot of touches but the role he plays also allows Carlisle to play more freely. People forget that pretty quickly. Brown also adds alot of leadership and expierence around the playing group. That can't be discounted either.

We've got enough leadership and experience. We need carry, rebound and spread, none of which he has. He filled a need. Time to move onto Austin and Goddard.

Until goddard and logan are ready brown absolutely is our full back. I agree he has done us proud and im sure yes his leadership will be great in 2018 as we are the youngest in the comp now. BUT no way we are top 4 in 2019/2020 if he is our fullback then. No way. I believe in goddard and logan both have skill at that size

I did say NJB is an asset until someone better steps up-Logan or Hugh maybe.
Brown is not young and those 2 are the future, and NJB is keeping their seat warm until they're ready.
Agree that in 2 years, if NJB is still at fullback, we're rubbish.
He must know his days are numbered, just like an old guy in an office counting the days to retirement.
The young ones are ready to move in

Yes NJB is only a stopper.
His best disposal game was 7 kicks+7 handballs
vs the toothless ones.
Averaged 6.7 disposals per game in 2017.
Has a few clangers, too
All stats from AFL tables website

I was happy with Brown last year. Did exactly what he was hired to do so not sure why the negativity. As for Logan and Goddard taking his place I have not seen enough from them to think it will happen soon. Goddard really hasn't been brilliant before he was injured and he is slow. Logan was cheap as chips for a reason. He isn't good either. Brown could be here for a while yet. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get Noughton if he is available at pick 7/8.

Ooo wouldnt say that. Logan has got it youll see the kid had a broken leg ffs. Before that he was first picked out of quite a few options. Hes had his year of rehab hopefully 2018 hes back.
Same as goddard. WCE game goddard was good go and watch it. In a game where we suked badly he even kicked a nice goal.

Both have it just need to get back to full fitness. Where as brown is a negator and thats it. Dawson mk2. All good does his job but my god his disposal is appalling turns it over everytime ffs

Some good points but Logan did break his leg but in 2016 so he had plenty of time to recover and get back into the port top 22. I acknowledge that port has a good defence but that kind of helps my point. He wasn't good enough to get into their team, i.e. not a gun. Plus port let him and a forth round pick for a third round pick which is cheap as so sounds like port were getting rid of him

I don't know what you are talking about with Goddard and WCE?
http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Rati ... gh-GODDARD
that is all his games rated and they are not great overall. I have seen him play for Sandy and he is really slow. And he has a huge turning circle so he is easy to out run and get around.

Agree that Browns disposal isn't good but that is not he's primary role, its to mark up on Gorillas and he did that well for most games last year, not all but most. It also freed up players like Roberton to play their more natural game and look what happened there.

Made similar suggestion in another thread. We need kick out options as it has been a problem. Next season I'd like to see Goddard starting at CHF and Bruce on a wing ala Roo. They can rotate throughout the game to rest and we'll always have a kick out option. Bruce been used in this role, in the past with success.

Logan is about to have his first full preseason since he was drafted. His forn, although limited, is actually very good when you consider the interruption his injuries have caused. Heaps of upside.

Never heard of this Borwn guy so can't say if he is crap or not.

But we do have a guy called Brown on the list. You know, the guy who came tenth in the B & F and in front of our superstars in Roo and Joey.

I'd prefer no swingers in the playing group !
I like to see the boys on the back page , not the front .
