The comments on the Inside Football site make interesting reading.

Obviously he can butcher the ball and his decision-making can let him down but he has played some very good games and has the speed we need. Probably comes down to whether the club thinks he can overcome his weaknesses and improve as a player. I would take him at pick 45.

Hawthorn probably put him up for trade for a late pick so why would we use pick 45 on him.

You can potentilly get a good player for pick 45.

NO.

He was in our youth development system for a couple of years so we should know plenty about him. I think it 's
Instructive that we neither drafted him nor traded a late pick for him. It would appear we're not that interested. Pass.

Hartung!

That draft deal that got us the No 19 pick, and hence the BAcres who could be a superstar... also meant we did not get Hartung. Thank gawd!!! :D

Rumoured figjam. (Though didn't someone who knows him, post on here that this isn't so?) Is too small! But, my issue... another soft receiver who has probably never actually earnt a hard ball get in his life. I was actually very surprised when the Dawks picked him up. The toxic gnome had just gotten rid of all their soft receivers after the GF loss to the Swines.

Remember that season? All those 'beautiful kicking' outside running left footers, who were the icing on the cake as the Dawks powered into the GF.

But... the Swines shut down the likes of Mitchell... and that by default, shut down half a dozen other Dawks. Whoopsy. The recipe to beat the Dawks was laid bare for all to see. To his credit, one of the 'all' was the angry little man. So, out with the receivers. Result, another tough GF against the ultra defensive Ro$$y... and this time... they won.

Look at any GF (whilst the game is still to be won) and you won't see too many uncontested possessions. Receivers can look incredible when their team is on top. But, when the pressure is on... they-go-missing. Always have! Always will!

Again, I have no issue with the need to recruit fast, you-beaut kicking, outside runners. But, these blokes must also be able to win their own contested footy if (when) required.

So, if we want to win a GF that is a scrap (Hillbillies vs Nought Power was the last one where one side didn't fire a shot all day), we can not play soft outside receivers who are incapable of also scrapping if/when required!

So it's a huge 'NO' from me to us recruiting the likes of Hartung, Watts or Gaff.

Saw Hartung pulling a wagon with no wheels up a sand dune...clocked him at 143 kilometres an hour.
Small but tidy.

Unfortunately also saw him attempting to kick a blade of grass took 678 attempts.

Yes he is fast but he is a grand clang master.

Moral of story: he will get there first but god forbid we need him to kick a target.

I doubt the Saints are going to pickup Billy Bob Hartung.

I know him, his GF is a family member
He does have a bit of the "figjam", said he should have played in that GF (2015 ?)

I hope he gets picked up, but not by us thank you !
He will have to drastically change/improve his game to survive

Would be be very close to our best 22. He had 26, 32 and 23 touches in his last three games this year.

That's so far ahead of Nathan Wright, Daniel McKenzie and Darren Minchington.
Mark McGough used to get a lot of touches. Can't recall him ever hitting a target.

NO.
For example, Jack Steven and Sam Fisher. It's a no from me. They had two years to get to know him and passed.

We did say a potentially good player. Many more misses than hits in the 40's. Just saying there is the odd gem to be picked up down there. Just because it is pick 45, doesn't mean you can't get a good one. Ask Geelong, Hawthorn, Swines, Adelaide, etc. All you need is a gun recruiting manager who really knows his stuff. And at that point, my argument falls to pieces, completely. Sorry, I wasted your time.

Murdoch should've been a player. Got injured at the wrong time and got left behind.
