Off Season Player Review #42 - Lewis Pierce

Post: # 1699444Post skeptic »

What on earth happened... once described as possibly the most all rounded of all of ruck stocks, in a team where Hickey doesn't win enough tap outs and Longer not enough possessions, Lewis Pierce failed to fire a shot all season.

I understand that he was injured for a fair chunk of it but statistically it appeared to be his worst VFL season, and I don't ever remember reading that he played well, and there was nil suggestion that he ever pushed for a senior call...
Fell behind Marshall and left for dead by Holmes too.

All of that said, by the end of the season his was back to Sandy prime and doing ok...

So I ask you, he's contracted (I think), does this kid have a hope?

Do the coaches rate him?

Is he anything other than a ruck?

I don't want to speculate too much, but I have a funny feeling he may have had some non-physical issues. Didn't appear on the medical report for weeks at a time and didn't play at any level.

Anyway, I hope he can get back into it next preseason and break into the team.

As long as there are no issues that we are not aware of and that he trains hard, listens to the coaches, has a good attitude etc. I would definitely keep him. Still young for a ruckman.

Is contracted to 2019 making it 7 years.

At what point should we expect him to be playing senior football or at least pushing for selection?

I've been a fan of Lewie. I found it puzzling that he didn't get more games after a reasonable debut against Carlton. A bit like Marshall. He had a horror run with injury this year, a bit like Billy in 2016. Next year is make or break, but the boy has talent. Whether he becomes Barry Brooks II or more like Billy this year, is up to him.

I think you're pretty tough, don't I?

Cheers, I was just going off the sticky which must be wrong.

So 6 years next year for one game so far, he has it all to do... fingers crossed he explodes.
