VFL news- 2017/ 2018

Post: # 1699201Post saintbrat »

Lots happening with the VFL competition
# first was the removal of the Development League whch had several AFL clubs looking to restructure their development programs-
( would like to hear how the likes of Box Hill are going to do it)

# Sandringham and St Kilda appear destined to continue some form of alignment as the AFL/ VFL had said no new licences for 2018-- although neither can really afford to go alone yet-
this will mean some clever and Hard work to maintain a presence.

# Frankston returns after fundraising and presenting a solid master plan for survival.
( despite a rumour of Harvey being considered as Frankston Coach he appears to be staying at the Pies)

# David Friend to be involved with VFL to aid membership revival as Teams try to make ends meet-

AFL Vic to use membership expert David Friend (Hawthorn,St Kilda etc) to help VFL clubs boost their numbers.Oversaw Frankston's rise this yr
# North Ballarat Have lost their licence-

AFL Victoria chief executive officer Steven Reaper said the VFL’s governing body wasn’t confident the club could satisfy major requirements of a VFL licence.

“After significant upheaval at board level in recent years at North Ballarat, AFL Victoria believes the current position the club finds itself from both a governance and on-field perspective doesn’t meet the key criteria needed for a continuation of the club’s VFL licence,” Reaper said in a statement.

“AFL Victoria needs to ensure there is a sustainable team in Ballarat, and one that is representative of the region and is fully focused on a state-league presence.’

Reaper said there have been many learnings to come out of the licence removal then reinstatement at the Frankston FC over the last 12 months, which have and will be used moving forward with North Ballarat.

“Whilst the North Ballarat board recognise the need for change, what the Frankston example has demonstrated is that time out of the competition allows clean air to strategically review all aspects of the VFL operation and ensure the best model going forward, ” Reaper said.

“Any future entity needs to form long-term relationships with key stakeholders in the region, and ensure all parties are working together to grow the game in Ballarat and surrounding areas.

“We have been able to learn from the situation with Frankston over the last year, that time out of the competition does not mean a team is lost forever.

Theres a lot of complex stuff going on with north Ballarat, the North split/bulldogs alignment, sacking of a multiple premiership coach, sacking's of ceo/president's very other other week, compulsory acquisition of their home ground and sports club so the Bulldogs can play a game in Ballarat, missing monies ect some dodgy dealings going on at the roosters involving some big bucks and the council, afl and state government......

Interesting

Coaching change at VFL club Sandringham, with Aaron Hamill tipped to take over from Lindsay Gilbee in a shuffle of the St Kilda assistants.

Good
Hopefully that means Saints will get a real forwards coach.

Confirmed. Did feel our forward setup and lack of plan B let us down at times this year.
Happy to see Hamill stay on though. Gilbee now development role (hopefully focusing on teaching kicking skills).
