THE 2 things holding us back. (One & a half things actually)

Post: # 1696665Post Dave McNamara »

Some very interesting threads from carn_sainter viewtopic.php?f=1&t=93910
and parkey' viewtopic.php?f=1&t=93939
I agree with the points they make, and they got me thinking. So, along with the seven point plan in 'The Manifesto' over in Con's 'boss for a month' thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=93949#p1696654 ...

1/ Enemy run of the half back line:
A constant in all our games. When they run rampant, we get cut to threads. :( When we reign them in, we are on top. :D

This is the one factor that determines if we win or not.

1.5/ Kicking for goal:
This is why we either,
- fail to bury the enemy during our periods of ascendancy, or
- if we are totally on top, fail to absolutely thrash and humiliate the enemy.

Yes, the goal kicking accuracy factor is undeniably very important, but is more an icing on the cake thing. Get number one right (stopping the enemy from running rampant of half back), and goal kicking accuracy will merely determine our winning margin (and blood pressure levels), not so much actually whether we win or lose.

It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?
Dave, man. Open up ------------------------------------------ -----Dave???

Agree - we got totally chopped up quite a few times this year - the guy with a headband ( don't even know his name) from Melbourne a few weeks ago is a prime example

1. half of the list is no good (can't kick or handball)
2. the coach is no good*

* Either they are following his four or five handballs in a circle before kicking plan or they are ignoring his more direct plan with handballs to forward running players and do what they do.

I will simplify things.

Our main and biggest problem is lack of quality.

We have a capable support cast, but we have no main act. The Director probably needs a new script too.

Our current ensemble is strictly Off Broadway.

Be fair, at times the comedic timing is exquisite. A rumoured re-write of the script will feature young impressionable mids from the bush meeting eligible worldly half forwards, they connect and take contested marks. Goals follow and every one goes to the big dance. Casting and Direction remain experimental.
