Going ok so far....would be embarrassing if Hawks finished above us.

Shame the Pies couldn't get up as well.
Still a small chance the Pies can go above the Hawks.

Gold Coast. Pissweak. If the Brions salute tomorrow, we're still a chance.

Pies have cost us this year although the real f%^ck up was Sydney who crushed us twice and rolled over twice to Hawks
Without the Swans, we make the 8 and Hawks drop 2 spots!

We have locked in pick 7 though from Hawks (with slight possibility of pick 6 but that is a long shot... cannot slide lower than 7)
So decent result especially if either of Long or Battle make it but double especially if it becomes part of any deal to get Josh Kelly

So its pick 7 !
Earlier in the season it was looking better
But I'm sure that the club would be very happy with the way the trade turned out.

As soon as it becomes obvious that Fremantle is not putting up a winning effort against Essendon we need to start tanking (oops sorry wrong word, make that experimenting) to ensure that we lose to Richmond by more than 38 points.
That should not be too hard.
We could experiment by having a team of taggers for Dusty, when one clearly fails we could stick to it.
To give that tagger more experience in the role obviously.
We can experiment playing a small on Jack Riewoldt, maybe Mav Weller (for his defensive effort obviously).
We could trial Longer at full forward (because of his height advantage) with Bruce taking on the role of our number ruck (due to his versatility and need for more ruck experience).
We could even play Nick deep in defence on a small forward where his marking would be invaluable, pity that small forwards are nippy little guys that don't run on tram tracks.
Brown at centre half forward may bring him into game more than at full back.

Implement these winning strategies and we win pick 8 instead of pick 9.
Those low life Dogs deliberately tanked against Hawthorn trying to steal pick 8 from us.
We are entitled to that pick 8, not pick 9.

Before free agency period only

Pick 7 = 1644 points (Hawthorn)
Pick 8 = 1551 points (St Kilda)
PIck 9 = 1469 points (Bulldogs)

Picks 7 + 8 = 3195 points = Picks Nos 1 + 56
Picks 7 + 9 = 3113 points = Picks Nos 1 + 63

Let's remember
We got 2018 pick no 7 (before free agent period) + Ben Long + Josh Battle
They got 2017 picks 10 + plus pick 68 (before the draft).
Pick 68 became pick 63 as the draft progressed worth 112 points
Long looks like a VFL player, Battle looks like he could make it with time as a lead up forward in the mold of Membrey.

Our 2017 pick no 10 became pick no 11 as the draft progressed but it was ultimately deployed with a 25% bonus to trump pick 10.
If 2018 pick 7 also slips one place to 8 we will have gained 110 points (only worth pick 63)

To make a gain in the real world we need at least one of Ben Long or Josh Battle to become a quality AFL player.
Otherwise the deal was for nothing.

That's if we lose to Richmond enough for our percentage to drop before the Dogs. Right now we've got pick 9 and if we have a big win and West Coast a big loss then it could be pick 10.

Surely pick 7 is better than pick 10?
