Carlton and North have just as much cash and one of them will have picks 1 and 19 and the other 2 and 20. Carllton may also end up with another first rounder for Gibbs. At the end of the day all 3 clubs are in a great position to get him.bigred wrote:Best positioned to get him really.

I don't understand the logic. Kelly is a proven gun, who'll only get better. Are they saying we are already out of the race for his signature and are preparing us for a gentler letdown? I noticed on Fox last night, when the panel were discussing Kelly after the match, they mentioned only Carlton and North being the major players for him, though they said Geelong is now also showing interest. No mention of the Saints at all.
I don't think he even got on a plane from Adelaide, he certainly never played a senior game for us.

Playing devils advocate, there's always a big risk on pinning your hopes on one player, particularly when you are forced to overpay in a bidding war.
Most likely Kelly will end up at one of the bigger Melbourne clubs as that is the way of the world.
Sounds like we're not in the frame.

After today's display I would suggest that any half decent player will avoid the Saints like the plague. Best to go to the draft where they will at least stay for a couple of seasons before looking for greener fields. Any body we are likely to pick up at the trade table would only add to our surplus of very ordinary players
